Just watched Mosley pummel Margarito in a brilliant display. Of course the fight is forever overshadowed by Antonio's handwrap shocker, which surprised us all as he was quite a all round favourite amongst fans. I'm just curious how many other famous caught outs are there.... Any form of cheating counts of course.
Was a ****ing shame. Margarito was someone I admired and in many ways he still is, those hand wraps didn't stop him taking a massive beating from Cotto and Pac and keep coming forward. Can't wait for Marg vs Cotto II
Panama Lewis taking padding out of Luis Restos gloves when he fought Billy collins jnr, Resto won in a 10-round unanimous decision over a bloody Collins. After the fight, Resto came to Collins' corner to shake hands with Collins' father and trainer, Billy, Sr. When Billy, Sr. grabbed Resto's hand, he discovered Resto's gloves were thinner than normal. Screaming that he thought the gloves had no padding, Collins, Sr. demanded that the New York State Boxing Commission impound the gloves. An investigation found that each glove was missing an ounce of padding. There was also a 0.75-inch hole in the palm of each glove. Collins suffered a torn iris and permanently blurred vision, ending his boxing career.
When Lewis was working Arron Pryors corner against Arguello he got caught on camera at the end of a round when he asked a second to pass him a water bottle, when the second passed it to him he said "No, the one i mixed ". Although he denied it he was suspected of adding a stimulant to the water aiding Pryors performance, the guy was a scumbag for what he did to collins and he was suspected of having previous.
danny williams vs dimitrenko was a farce ahmet ohner rung the bell to save his fighter half way through the round, i also suspect AD's gloves may have been loaded that night but thats just my opinion dont box in spain..
Anyone who cheats puts lives at risk in a sport that already is so dangerous! Really unforgivable! Imagine if someone was hurt - awful!
You're right, LP. It was nowhere near as serious. Margarito is a damn right cheater. Trinidad wasn't doing anything that was illegal per se. Nazim Richardson was just so extra diligent and some might say petty with the rules. I think their situations are so different and i would never put them in the same catergory. Richardson says it himself. What Trinidad was doing was he was putting extra wraps on his knuckles. He wasn't loading the gloves/wraps, using plaster of paris or any other foreign object like Margarito was caught doing. What Trinidad was essentially doing was a trick of the trade. He wasn't cheating like some will have you believe. It's just one of those tricks of the trade things some fighters/trainers use to protect a fighters hands.
I agree - Margo using loaded hand wraps was terribly wrong. However much in the same way that if someone you love cheats on you, you may still have feelings for them. I still have some respect for Margarito. I can't help it and I won't lie about it. We all make mistakes. That's just me tho.
I heard somewhere that Margarito's wraps had the substance which cracks after hardens. Which means he would of been fighting with equivalent to broken glass on his fists. Don't know if thats true though.
