OK this punch has gotten pretty famous after the last fight, anybody who is familiar with this shot? How do you throw it?
It's a dam hook man, it's timed and instead of being planted you slightly move away or backwards letting the opponent slide by a bit and then you hook that ass call it what you want it's a hook, every punch has it's variations
Lead Hook, then pivot towards your lead side if conventional pivot left if southpaw pivot right its super simple the hard part would be timing it..
ideally step your lead foot to the outside of your opponent's base as you hook and pivot. if you don't move your foot you may end up throwing your weight top heavy with a result of you looking like you're in the Matrix. draw your opponent in and time it as they enter your airspace. its easy enough to practice. get a partner to hold their hand out like a focus mitt for a hook and have them step at you with a slow to medium pace. once you get it down, have them vary the speed and you have to read and time it accordingly. apply it to sparring. you can also you it as an exit at the end of a combination (1-2-hook-2-check hook out) to set up another angle.
Because it's basically the same as any other punch but after Floyd won his Hatton fight and mentioned it in the post-fight interview, so many people went crazy like it was some amazing new thing in the sport of boxing. I remember how ridiculous it was when that night and the next day nearly every boxing forum on the internet was filled with threads discussing how to throw a "check hook."
I've heard the "check" comes from the way you position your elbow, so that it's more slapped than hooked like a conventional left hook usually is, with the elbow following through.
