Surely the left hook that Sugar Ray used to KO Fullmer is the same thing as the OP described? :think

 

Check Hook is a term i used to hear around the gym years ago, it hadn't been heard for a hella long time before young Floyd aired the term after sliding that hook home against Hatton... Re birth of tha check hook, which is indeed just a very well timed counter that can look very spectacular if you leave your opponent dead in your wake .. Ray Robinson was a master technician of that discipline ... Floyd was raised in boxing from the womb , he probably saw and heard that termanology sinse being in his stroller...

 

Man shut your dumb ass up. Check Hook has been a term for years. Real fighter's know what a check hook is, it's just dumbass fans like you who know nothing about it. Manny Steward called it a check hook before Floyd did because that's what it was. They know boxing, you don't.

a check hook is simply catching a hook with your right hand and throwing a hook at the same time. nothing more nothing less. i know this for absolute sure. roger mayweather explains it in a pad video of his i have on dvd. thats all it is. like checking a kick in kickboxing.

 

How come that term aggravating term "check hook" has suddenly cropped up since the Mayweather-Hatton fight? Mayweather didn't invent a new damned punch. It's just a damned LEFT HOOK!!!! Sounds like a term dreamed up by some feverish fan-boy ESPN type.

 

I am eagerly awaiting the invention of the checkmate-hook.

I've been following boxing for more than 40 years, just boxing, no other sport, devour boxing magazines, watch fights on tv religiously for years and have NEVER heard of the term. You can't argue a point anymore intelligently than that? It may have been and maybe is today a term used in the fistic community, but BROADCASTERS and SPORTSWRITERS have only recently been using the term...clean out your ****in' head before you go off on me *******...

It's a term used in the midwest you *****. Manny Stewerd used the term before Mayweather used it, so it wasn't invented by some ESPN commentator. If you have ever boxed before(which I have) you would know what it was. But you've been listening to commentator's who have never fought like you, so of course you wouldn't know what it was.

Yep it is a new term and you can get the same result for it by just typing in hook or left hook.
