Agreed. It's no more dangerous than football, hockey, or motocross for little guys. We have 8,9,10 year olds that come to the gym 3-4 afternoons a week after school. A lot of these little dudes can really box and they have an absolute blast. They are only allowed to spar every other Friday and that's only if they have proven they are capable of defending and punching. The rest is all drilling and exercise. Some of them just like hitting the bags, hitting the mitts, skipping rope and having fun. USA boxing has a PeeWee division for 8-10 years olds, but there's not a lot of tournaments available to most kids. Plus, like any sport, the earlier you start the better the chances that you succeed, whether it be at the Golden Gloves, Olympic, or even pro level. These kids get a feel for the ring, they learn how to move their head and feet, they get great exercise, they get self-confidence, they know how to defend themselves, they learn discipline, how to follow instruction, work ethic etc, etc. It gives them a place to go after school and most importantly, they have fun. I think youth boxing programs are fantastic. It's funny how many parents have no problem signing their kids up for football, but think boxing is barbaric. Yeah, ok.

Totally agree. But theres a difference with kids boxing as an introduction to the sport. Learning discipline etc and the kids on show in the video. The truth is most kids fighting at that age aren,t likely to damage each other. The boys in the video although the level of skills impressive....its too high a skill level for where they should be....meaning their hitting harder/more accurate....cant be a good thing for kids that age receiving hard shots to the head.

I share this sentiment. Even in football (soccer) academies and schools across the UK prebuescant boys (and girls) are being taught to head balls punted 30/40 yards at pace in attack or defence. I’d say that’s probably worse on their skulls and brains than the impact of a very padded punch.

At the end of the day there are dangers in every sport and I’d rather my kids were into being active than being fat and lazy spending all their time on electronic devices.

Yet recent research shows heading the ball is linked to parkinsons disease or something like that. How many headers does a player make as well....not very often as a kid. Lucky if its two or three headers a week. They,ll ban kids headering a football soon i think.

These kids are hitting each other hard about 100 times a fight tho. That becomes a problem when the can really hit like these kids can.

All very well saying kids need to toughen up....encouraging it and hoping for the best...but when research is showing you the damage it can do....and still encouraging it....its borderline stupidity.

Think the biggest problem tho is the small guy shouldn,t have been in the ring with the bigger kid. As good as his defence was....he was still basically defenceless against the bigger kid. Ridiculously stupid matchmaking.

    Good skills tho tbf.

I agree with that last point. There’s not a chance they are even close to a level weight.

It may be that the short kid is so skilled that there is no competitive fight for him with any kid his size.

Really want to know who the short kid is.

Be interesting to see how it pans out tbh. Thought the big kid was really impressive as well. Level will be crazy high if they continue to develop with that kind of progression or will it be a case they actually start to regress when they get to a certain level. Tend to think they,ll burn out if the video,s anything to go by....but at the end of the day its a minute or two long video...maybe it was a case of he cant get competition his own size/age. Still iresponsible putting them together in the ring. Makes you wonder how these guys are training to get to that level. As you said above....what happens if they do become world champions/millionaires etc. I still say its not worth the risk regardless. More chance they,ll end up damaged way before their time.

Who knows tho. Thought someone would have posted the names on instagram. Ghanians i think someone said. Looks like a more american style of fighting than the usual ghanian style.
