There was the Tyson-Seldon wierdness, where was Seldon rated by Ring when that madness happened? Tyson was his second defence. As Dempsey was for Willard :hey

That first pic is great and shows the how strong Dempsey really looked, I wonder if we could convince him to come out of retirement and fight Wlad.

It does add a interesting effect to the photo, although I find myself wondering just how ferocious Dempsey would have looked in that moment if we could see his whole face.

Great pics, good thread. The pictures certainly show just how strong and well built both of these guys were.

As if Carruthers' domination wasn't enough, it was said he had a tapeworm developing at the time of the fight that wasn't discovered until a couple fights later, by which time it'd grown to 30 feet in length.

    Correct on the worm Rock.

Apparently just prior to the fight Carruthers heard about all the trimmings that being world champ bought, and 'thought he'd like to have them for himself'. By fight time he was raring to go as seen by his brutal assult from the opening (and only) bell.

Lewis vs Golota. Tyson vs Spinks. Marciano vs Walcott II. Ali vs Liston II. Louis vs Mauriello. Louis vs Schmeling II. Foreman vs Frazier I. Foreman vs Norton. Brewster vs Golota. Tyson vs Golota. All blowouts of highly ranked contenders.

Oh, i almost forgot Flynn vs Dempsey. :yep

And whether you like it or not, Willard's record going into the Johnson match WAS **** and the only reason he won is because it went over 30 or so rounds when fighting against an old, disinterested guy who had been fighting under horrific circumstances since he was a teenager. A true product of his time, but in any other gloved boxing time he would hardly be a footnote, a Joe Baski type of fighter at best. That is not trying to disrespect either's accomplishements, but just my opinion on how horrible Willard was and how lucky (white) and a product of circumstances he was.
