Cheeseman is defending his British Super-Welterweight title against Fitzgerald on October the 19th in Newcastle, looks like Eddie is hanging him out to dry now.

That will be a great fight, Cheese and Fitz could be too but I just think that with the problems he's had the last thing he needed was going in with arguably his toughest opponent to date.

Brilliant fight, brilliant card so far.

Fitz is mandatory so Cheeseman is hardly getting hung out to dry! It was always the plan for the winner of Fowler-Fitz to face Ted.

Anyway if the Fitzgerald that turned up in Liverpool makes an appearance again then it’s going to be a long night for the Cheese.

I just think it would have been better for his career to vacate rather than fight Fitz, going by his last fight, he was very lucky to get a draw, so in that respect I feel like he's being fed to Fitz, who will then almost certainly have a rematch with Fowler with the British belt on the line. I think that's the plan, Hearn probably knows that this could be Cheeseman's last big fight as he's on the slide in every sense.

It’s a double edged sword though. If you tell Cheeseman (who apparently suffers from depression and what not) to vacate the title because you effectively don’t think he’s good enough to defend it against domestic level opponents and then you put him in with some no mark - what does that do to his confidence and self esteem.

A big fight on a big bill could be what he needs. Give him the motivation to go out and prove himself, right his wrongs. Fitzgerald is definitely beatable, he himself has problems so again it depends which version of him turns up. Fowler brought out the best in him, will Cheeseman who’s got the personality of a block of cheese do the same?

There could be a scenario where Fitzgerald looks beyond Cheeseman and gets caught out but I can't see it really. Cheeseman was bad in his last fight against Conway and was lucky to not have another L added to his record, I don't see him being able to KO Fitzgerald and with the belt on the line I think the Mad Man will do more than enough to take it.

Either way it’s another great fight for British fans.

Hard to believe Fowler Fitzgerald was only in March. Feels like ages ago.

But you’ve got that and the following so far this year.

    Dubois v Gorman
    Ritson v Davies jr
    Cheeseman v Fitzgerald
    Hopefully Eubank v Ryder
Warrington v Galahad even though it absolutely stunk.

Some good close to call domestic dust ups this year.

    Excellent match up.

This is the standard of matchmaking that should be the norm rather than the exception.

Didn't he say after the 'summer break' there would be fewer but stronger cards. Promising start.

No self respecting boxer would vacate. Unless he felt he was beyond British level which he clearly isn’t. There’s no way to vacate the belt. Doubting his own ability and quitting but still stepping in the ring would be very dangerous
