Okay so he fought Salka, people forget Garcia took Matthysses soul. Literally Lucas was suppose to be unstoppable and Garcia had no chance lol
Correct, every single person that has fought at an elite level has some duds on their resume. He hasn't made a career out of it though.
He’ll never live down the Salka fight, and I’m a fan of Swift’s, but even as a soft toucht that fight was indefensible. But your right, his resume is top notch. My only criticism of him as of late is that he’s taken long layoffs after his two decision losses and come back into the ring against sluggers...and not really shown any different skills.
Rod Salka Herrera kicked Garcia's ass and then they somehow found Salka. This is when the Cherry Garcia **** started.(his social media was just full of cherry emojis) Garcia might have a good resume, but there are a lot of lapses. Herrera and Salka were cherry picks. Peterson was an OK fight. A step up in competition again. But then they dug up Paulie Malignaggi, who had actually been retired Next up was Guerrero, who looked horrible in his previous fight. Followed by Samuel Vargas, who was also a tuneup. Then after the Thurman loss they found Brandon Rios It's just constant tuneup after another.
Hah.. I must have heard that somewhere. We have Ben and Jerrys down here..Don't care for it myself. More a blue ribbon kind of man.
To be fair Zab Judah and Devon Alexander had already edged Matthysses. He wasn't the boogey man Garcia makes him out to be. Just because he was picked to lose against him. He couldn't be unstoppable with two losses under his belt.
Ive never understood why he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Hes a fun fighter to watch who brings it in every fight and is a pretty chill guy. Hes one of my favorite fighters to watch.
He doesn't deserve the moniker anymore but at one point he did cherry pick to protect the zero. Once that went he stopped cherrying
Well... to be fair, he started getting that label before he had fought Thurman and Porter and before hed take a Spence fight, around the time when his last opponents were the likes of Salka, Peterson, Malignaggi, and Guerrero, leading into a Vargas fight, over the course of almost two years. Obviously, having fought Thurman and Porter and now Spence in rapid succession, the label no longer fits (if it ever actually did).
It was a legitimate criticism for him at one point, but in recent fights he's really stepped it up, and I've actually grown to become quite a big fan of his. I think he'll give Spence a hell of a fight when they clash.
eh... I kinda think thats a bit over the top. Vegas had Matthysse a favorite at only around -250ish... give or take a bit. (comparatively, Spence was -800 to -1000, against Porter) The prediction league had it around 20 for Matthysse, 10 for Garcia. the top two sites I saw give a prediction for the fight was badlefthook, saying "...should Garcia stay out of harm's way, it's a perceived edge in workrate that could hold sway with the judges." and sportbetlist "....Neither boxer has a discernible weight or reach advantage, but Garcia possesses the better boxing skills and Matthysse has the better power. Sooner or later Garcia is going to get nailed with a heavy shot from the challenger and how he reacts will tell the story of this bout. If he can handle it then he should be able to earn a close decision win to hang onto his belts." Both predictions basically saying if Garcia could withstand Matthysses power, he likely wins. And personally, I saw this as a near 50/50'ish fight, with a slight edge to Matthysse. So I dont really buy the 'Garcia was given no chance' narrative.
