I don't understand when people say that Oscar lost ALL his major fights. I know that they were smaller and past it but Whitaker and JCC are both top 40 ATGs

How do you cherry pick undefeated diego coralles?
How do you cherry pick Genero Hernadez?
How do you cherry pick the man at 135 Castillo?
How do you cherry pick the lineal champ at WW Baldomir?
How do you cherry pick the man at 154 and the biggest star in boxing Oscar Dela Hoya?
How do you cherry pick undefeated champ of two weight divisions Ricky Hatton?
How do you cherry pick the man at WW Sugar Shane Mosley?
How do you cherry pick the hungry young lion, the number 2 ranked WW, Vicious Victor Ortiz?

And the list goes on and on.

Also depends on your talent level.. Lots of different factors, kinda too vague to give one solid answer.. It's easy for us 'fans' to say we'd face everyone, we don't have the opportunity to make MILLIONS in a guaranteed win. I'd bet most people who make millions would take the perceived 'easy road' and money over of the perceived 'harder road' to please others. Easy to judge others when you're not in the same position.

The truth is, boxers fight to make money, legacy is almost always second. But they go hand n hand when you get to a certain point in your career.

You take huge paydays out of the mix and let's say the best you can make per fight is 250,000. Say good bye to a lot of boxers.

    Pascal
    Taylor
    Dirrell
    Kessler
    Abraham
    Johnson
    Ward

Even if he loses his next fight and goes 5-2 that is a great record!

Like I said before I'll cherry pick my ass off to make it to the champ level and get attention (whihc means money), but once I find myself at that level. I will always try to push myself to be the best at anything I do.

I have a need to raise my family name and always try to make it greater. Legacy over money anytime in my book. If I was in a important or well known position I would always want to be known for something after death.

I'd cherrypick to the point that I know if I retired I could live the lifestyle that I wanted.

Let's say Im a C level fighter, I know it, my trainer knows it, my promoter knows it but the public loves me. I'd push to get better but I'd damn sure take advantage of that.

Fight the best and not take losses, but cause that ain't an option, then fighting the best and taking some losses is better.

I dont want to write too long so I will try to keep it short.

Both, it depends on a lot of things you can control and others that you cant control.

Even now with his 3 looses Abraham being in the S6 and all the hype surrounding it he is still in the top 10 in the SWM and most think he will do good again in MW. Without the S6 and/or without have already made a name of himself, this 3 looses would have put him in the level of Miranda or Andrade. Those fighter fought good fighters but lost each time they step up.

So if you loose in a big fight looking good and all, it's all good, or if you did better than expected, etc. It all depends on a lot of stuff and it's too easy calling some boxer to be cherry picking and others almost saints.

Understood. What fighters are at the level you're talking about? How much money do you think you should be making per fight at that level? I think the level/money you make is not directly tied to competition, but rather fame and popularity.

:thumbsup I don't believe most fighters ever reach this level while fighting, even if they fight the best competition willing to face them. Few opportunities to face the TOP people in the sport and make the TOP kind of money.. I think this is why so many fighters choose the money route when they're given the opportunity.

Betcha the overwhelming majority will choose "fight the best."

I also bet the overwhelming majority would actually chase the money and do what they had to do to protect their big payday in the event they were in that position without a safety net.

I would so the same, but I would also understand why fans would become disenchanted with me. Just sayin.
