Yep. Near enough every challenge that was available, no matter what the risk...he took. Win or lose, he has one of the best resumes in the last god knows how many years (in my opinion). Even the Pacquiao bout that the threadstarter was referring to as being "cherrypicked", has turned out to be a very risky bout at that stage in his career. Pacquiao has even proven that in the couple years since.
All I know is people who call either Pac or Floyd a cherry picker are complete hypocrites unless they place both guys in the same category which is something I've yet to witness. It's like their rule applies to one guy but not the other. Personally I think while they could've taken on better opposition at times, they've done enough to be classified as an all time great and that's really all that matters. Let's be real, you can't say Margo is the best challenger for Pac at this point. You also can't state Baldomir was the toughest opponent for Floyd back in 06. Oscar took on all comers but the one exception will always make him a *****. He specifically told the public he'd take on the winner of Margo-Cotto and when Marg emerged, Oscar backed out. That is the most clear-cut form of ducking as you can get. At least Mayweather NEVER called out Pac up until recently therefore him pussying out is still arguable since the fight can still be made. Joe C. fought Lacy and Kessler when they were at the top of their game so I wouldn't assume Joe takes easy fights. Even though Hop was old he was still one of the best fighters around when Joe fought him. His overall resume is good but not great though.
Floyd Mayweather Paul Williams Timothy Bradley Devon Alexander Andre Dirrell Andre Ward Chad Dawson Sugar Ray Robinson Sugar Ray Leonard Roy Jones Jr. Bernard Hopkins Floyd Mayweather Thomas Hearns Marvin Hagler Pernell Whitaker Muhammed Ali Joe Louis Joe Frazier Floyd Patterson George Foreman Sonny Liston All ducked tough, Euro-level challengers and therefore have an asterisk next to their legacies. None are even on y top 75 ATG list.
floyd by far.....he's always got an excuse to not get in the ring with the one fans want to see him fight!...always!
Calzaghe.. ****in coke ***** knew what time it was when getting dropped in the first rounds by a 40 something year old Hopkins and a shot Roy Jones.
Fighter of the decade is a cherry picker. And almost all of his major fights he was the underdog, thread starter is an idiot.
It is impossible to fight everybody. In the end, you could argue a lot of great fighters 'picked' instead of fighting the 'best' on more than one occasion. Joe Louis was known to have his "Bum of the Month Club" that was written about in his time for example. I personally think Joe was a great HW champion regardless. Did he fight top-notch guys all the time? No... Does it matter? Not really. He fought and beat some excellent heavyweights and dominated his era/generation. As long as the top guys face off when they are available, it generally isn't an issue. Unfortunately for us, that isn't happening as often as it should. Edit -- I did not make a selection for any of these fighters. They have all dominated in their own respective ways.
