I'm in the mood for a chess match. What are some highly technical fights? Preferably ones from the 80s to present.

Lewis vs Oliver Mccall. Lewis played chess in the introduction to the fight.

I don't understand the corrolation of technically sure and chess. Or chess and boxing. Ever, really. It's just one i don't get.

I always thought the term chess match in boxing usually refered to a cautious match (a lot of feinting and thinking) rather than technical fights.

Wlad v Fury would be an obvious recent example.

Nah, the term 'chess match' is aimed at technical defensive fights. The thing is you get aggressive chess matches and defensive chess matches. There is no less skill in offensive boxing than there is defensive boxing. You get highly technical offensive boxing matches and highly technical defensive ones. One thing about boxing that ****es me off is that the term 'pure boxing' seems to be aimed at defensive styles when infact the meaning of the term 'boxing' would indicate otherwise.
The true boxing chess masters are masters at both offence and defence, guys like Duran, Hagler and the great Carlos Ortiz spring to mind.
