All I can suggest is getting to the point where it is comfortable. Having your chin down is important, but it doesn't really help if you can't see your opponent or if you are dizzy. Find a good center, so that you are able to have your chin down and still able to see straight..

try resting it on your opponent's inner thighs.

Without seeing what your actually doing, I can't for sure know what's wrong, but it seems to me that you are putting your chin down, but you are standing to erect, or ,your shoulders are not up high enough. You should have your chin down, and left shoulder (assuming conventiona stance) should be up enough to offer it [the chin] some protection. You should also be slightly hunched over... then keep those eyes looking foward and up. If you do this your field of vision should not be impaired.
Are you wearing headgear? Some people find the headgear to narrow the field of vision. Try finding a headgear with a better fit.
The other scenario is that maybe you're just fighting guys who are REALLY, REALLY tall.
