I feel Maxim's is underrated, but is it as great as LaMotta's? Who faced the biggest punchers? I ask because they were actually similar in size, as far as I know.
Hatchetman Sheppard knocked joey maxim out cold in 1 round. people forget how hard hatchetman hit. Moore called hatchetman the hardest hitter he ever faced in his long 250 bout career. hatchetman once broke a dudes collar bone with one punch. I have a mini IBRO article on hatchetman sheppard-Joey maxim, talks about the first fight and 2nd fight. ill see if i can post it. I think lamotta had the better chin because no one i mean no one could catch him and knock him out cold. he was too durable. no one could even floor him until he was shot(and that was by much bigger hard hitting danny nardico)......lamotta took a punch like hagler.
Joey Maxim did, but lamotta was never knocked out cold like maxim was. not really i mean lamotta was a middle and maxim lightheavyweight. both fought some tremendous punchers.......i have a ring magazine article lamotta interview about him commenting on his fight with satterfield, how satterfield essentially hit like an atomic bomb with both fists and landed flush punches on lamottas head, but lamotta took them without blinking.
Calling LaMotta a middleweight in the literal sense is kind of ridiculous considering his cutting. Could you post that article and maybe the interview, please?
I found the interview ill post a summary of it. its way too long to post the full. Let me look for the maxim-sheppard quote. your right about jake lamotta cutting methods.
Maxim and Robinson were on a par for me both were floored infrequently,Maxim kod once by the thunderous hitting Shepard who caught him cold and was never able to duplicate the feat,Robinson was stopped once with heat exhaustion ,against Joey, in a fight he was clearly winning .Nothing between them.Lamotta is up there with Hagler for chin.
