his chin's the same. he just thinks more now, has more confidence, and is learning what kind of shots are gonna put him down.
I was pretty certain that Khan had a glass chin and I would say at 135lbs he does. But at 140lbs he is more hydrated and is able to take better shots now. Much like Cotto who at 140lbs looked chinny but at 147lbs looked more durable. I'd say Khan has an average chin at 140lbs, any puncher can hurt him if they land flush but he won't be taken out as easily as he would have been at 135lbs. He showed much better survival instincts against Maidana than he did against Prescott.
Well a lot of people thought Khan was underweight at 135 and that was affecting his punch resistance.
Put it his way, the shots in the early rounds would have put 135lb khan out. I mean FFS willie limond had him down of a nothing temple shot and really wobbly where he had to take a 13 second count. Though i do believe the initial shot he took in the 10th wasnt as powerful as it seemed. Khan was already backing away but maidana is a monster puncher at 140. But then again what exactly are we saying about khan's chin. That if a monster puncher connects on his chin when he walks onto a shot he will get put down? Well duh?
I'm convinced that you're obsessed with chins. No-one really cares about what you think you just make yourself look more and more stupid I hope you realise that!!
Actually I think whether his chin improved or not is not that relevant. I was a lot more impressed with his mental toughness and willingness to stay in the fight in that round. He was getting beat a lot more than Ortiz in his fight with Maidana and didn't go down or quit. British fans can be proud of him really. Khan needs to work on his defense though. I think Maidana will stop Amir if they fight again.
Agree with most of that apart from if there was a rematch I think Khan would destroy Maidana. He would box his head off for 12 rounds.
I don't think his chins improved, but his defence, conditioning (mostly due to fighting at a higher weight) and his brain most certainly have.I'm taking nothing away from the guy,but Maidana looked out on his feet for the previous 2 rounds, and had nothing left himself which is clearly why he couldn't finish Khan.Had he connected with that punch earlier in the fight i'm pretty certain he could of finished the fight there and then. The worrying thing for Khan was how he reverted back to the "old version" of himself, and when hurt started trying to land his own bombs instead of covering up.Great performance from Khan, but most of us knew Miadana had nothing in his armoury except a big punch,Khan was always likely to outbox him.
It's not his chin that's got better, if his chin had got better he would've never have been hurt, what has improved are his recovery abilities and his ability to ride out the storm when he's hurt. These are things that fighters learn through experience.
Of course his chin has improved. In the same way Cotto's did from 140 to 147. Khan took some huge shots off Maidana, and though of course he was hurt, he didn't get knocked out like a HUGE amount of people thought he would. Being better suited to the weight and therefore stronger, maturity of being a grown man, neck strength, whatever. The Khan that was badly hurt by Limond could not have taken those shots from Maidana. Is Khan still vulnerable? Yes. Has his chin improved? Yes.
This. He was hit with clean right hand bombs throughout the fight, people just forget that because of what happened in the 10th
This pretty much sums it up perfectly. Great post. And I also expect his "chin" to improve even more when he moves up to 147.
Khan proved that night that is chin is not as bad as it was made out to be, he took alot of punishment from Maidana and was still standing fair play to him! G
Who cares about the chin? he can beat a big puncher over 12 rounds. The thing is ,top class fighters always find a way to win. This fight give you hint that Amir Khan is top class fighter. Who wants an "iron chin", but you lose the fights. Big chin fighters also tend to get hit more. A strong chin can cover up a multitude of deficiencies. Chin is one element of a fighter and not even the most important there hundreds of variables involved in winning and losing a fight.
