Who wins the battle of the chins here? I've only followed these two guys recently so if anyone knows of any knockdowns, cases of being rocked/buzzed or anything in the amateurs can we list them here. Who has the better chin Parker or Hughie? Will one fighters chin let them down? Thoughts?
I believe Parker was bothered a little bit by the Brazilian journeyman Nascimento early on in his career, don't remember the round it might have been 4-6. But a shot landed that visibly bothered him. Also think he was stopped a few times in his amateur career. Since then however, he's eaten some shots from the likes of Ruiz Jr. and a few big Polynesian area level punchers. I'd say his chins at the very least solid, even if it isn't iron. I'm a firm believer that your punch resistance isn't at it's peak potential until you've reached full manhood, so stoppages in the amateurs can be forgiven(Tua had an amazing chin but was stopped badly by Savon in the amateurs)
As for Fury... That's a question mark. Although I've heard rumors from sparring etc. that it's better than Tysons lol.
Interesting theory. For me it's usually alarm bells if a fighter is getting KO'd in the ams. I chose to ignore this with David Price and got burnt, never again. I didn't know Parker had been KO'd in the ams, i'll have to check this out thanks.
Fury is very defensively sound, Hughie is more responsible than tyson, dont take risks or lose his head.
Afaik Parker was not KOd in ams but I could be wrong... A reference of said KO would be helpful if it's true? Parker was bothered by Nascimento when his eardrum burst which is a very unpleasant experience. Parker then went kill mode and knocked Nascimento out...
The punch you are talking about burst Parkers eardrum, I don't think he was hurt but it did bother him. Tua was a teenager and put on more than 10kgs as a pro. Amateurs that are getting koed in their mid 20s would be different IMO, you ain't growing at that age. Parker has never been dropped sparring, am or pro apparently
