Bute showed some of the worst grit/toughness I've seen in a while, so I had to ask an expert. I guess having total glass is worse then being soft.

 

ooh james kirkland is my hero because I beleive hes not gonna get knocked out in the first round by canelo? even though I still beleive canelo is going to win this fight and likely by stoppage?

Bute is indeed a Glass Hearted and Glass Jawed Fraud and his Chin is NEARLY as bad as Glass Jaw Roy's, but he is not shot and Glass Jaw Roy is a complete shell at this point. If Jones schedules fights in South America and Antarctica he could become the first man in history to be brutally and embarrassingly KOed on every continent.

You obviously have some sort of blinders on in regards to him because you refuse to accept that Glass Jaws Exist in Boxing and that Jelly Jaw James has the very worst in the sport. He has no Chin. None.

Chin Checkers, how do you rate Valuev's chin? Does the fact that he is so massive compared to his opponents have anything to do with his chin? Against the hardest puncher he faced, only barely threw 20 punches a round, managed to make him do a hell of a stanky leg. . . If you took his chin, and put it on a 250 pound HW, would we see results more like Wladimir's experiences? Or, if he had faced much bigger punchers during his tenure at HW, would we have seen the big man kiss the canvas? Or possibly even "go to sleep"?

Of course not. . However, it will lead to further scrutinization of that boxer, and their chin (or potential lack thereof).

If you then look back at their fights, and see they have been chin-checked a few times, which resulted in stanky legs/chicken dances, then the signs have been there all along, and that KO was simply the ultimate realization of the inevitable. . . If there were no signs there before, then the KO will serve as the first indication, and depending on what happens thereafter, will give you an idea of where their chin ranks. . .

Also, there are other dynamics to look at: What type of punch knocked him out? Was it accumulation of punches? Was it a "one shot n'drop"? Was it questionable stoppage? Was he literally out on his feet after just a few rounds of punishment, or did it take all 12 rounds of massive punishment round, after round? What type of power did the guy have who KO'd him?


NOTE: I am not an official chin-checker, but I am honorary member, and I'm pretty sure the official chin-checkers will co-sign my response to your statement.

 

Bibbity Bumpage! ONCE AGAIN the CHIN-CHECKERS prove to be correct! Metal Mandible was saying in IB's RBR thread for Powell/Rosado that "two glass jawed boxers" were fighting. . SURE ENOUGH, despite Rosado being quite feather-fisted, managed to RENDER POWELL UNCONSCIOUS!!!

 

Apologies if the topic has already been covered, but in your research have you found any correlation between chin size and punch resistance? For example, is it safe to assume that a person with an oversized/heavily pronounced chin can take a great shot?

Please see a recent photo of Boxing Girl for an example of the kind of gargantuan mandible I'm referring to.

This guy is Antonio Silva, a tumor giant that does MMA. As you can see, his Mandible is quite pronounced but he has been brutally and embarrassingly KOed several times showing a disgraceful Glass Jaw. This man and Valuev, a guy that was put on ***** Street by David Haye who cannot punch at HW, clearly disprove any notion that the size of the Mandible effects punch resistance.

 

Bute must be downgraded to a 0.

He is Froch's only KO over a name since Taylor, who got dropped moreso on his lack of stamina, than his lack of CHIN.

Classify the "Types of Jaw" and give a short definition and an example of a boxer. From the weakest to the strongest!

 

Iron Mike Tyson IMHO has a great chin, hes been stopped before but he's never been sparked clean out and I believe the buster fight was more do to lack of stamina than a weak chin, Lewis he didnt take a backward step and he ate bombs for eight rounds. Holyfield dropped him but that was more off balance and when he stopped him in the 11th although tyson was rocked/wobbled from accumulation of punches he didnt go down. I dont even count mcbride or williams fights and his leg was ****ed after the second round against williams i dont mean to make excuses but that is a big injury.

Ricky Hatton- face first hands down brawler has to have a good chin right? against Kosta he took many flush power shots without blinking, mayweather stopped him but he was always forward and had taken a lot of punishment before the KO pacquiao knocked him spark out...idk many fighters who could take that punch but still he got stopped in a brutal fashion. I hear theories that his punch resistance diminished throughout his career for taking too much punishment or fluctuating dramatically in weight between fights. I am a huge fan of the hitman and I think he gets a bad rap for his chin

Roberto Duran- I think he has one of the greatest chins of all time but he was stopped brutally by tommy hearns, but that right hand would of probably took out a heavyweight so does he loose any face for the hearns fight?

Honestly I am glad this forum is here because I find it the idea of chins in boxing to be fascinating. My three favorite qualities in a fighter will always be: Power, Chin, Heart/balls. I am an amateur hoping to turn pro and those are the gifts I have been blessed with so naturally I look up to fighters with these qualities. I love iron chinned warriors always on the attack. I really cant like a fighter with a glass jaw I think a fighter should be able to dish it out as well as he can take it in.

Does a fighters Chin have X amount of punches it can take before its become glass? Sometimes after brutal knockout(s) fighters never show a good chin again or when fighters reach a certain age or get to a certain point in their career they get knocked out by punches that they wouldnt even blink at before. Once you get knocked out does that take away from your punch resistance?
