His chin is sturdy but we also have to look at his defense. He did a good of measuring distance and avoiding shots, or avoiding the full impact of it when he got hit. People make too much out of the big uppercut he took from Lewis. Yeah it was a brutal shot he took, but even a guy with a powerful uppercut like Lewis rarely stops someone with a single uppercut. It's more rare to see a guy taken out, or even dropped and badly hurt, from an uppercut as opposed to a left hook that he doesn't see coming. Mavrovic took more clean shots, numerous brutal right uppercuts and crosses, and stayed on his feet.
A modern day Martin Luther King Jr. This man is a champion in and out of the ring. What a human being he is.
Vitali undoubtedly has some mandibular fortitude, but there are shards of glass in his make up. His face was torn to ribbons by Lewis - and if that fight had continued I believe Lennox would have ktfo Klitschko. Vitali would not have been able to see some of the punches coming, and Lewis would have gotten him out of there. Sanders also wobbled him badly with a short left, a punch he didn't see. This makes me suspect that if Vitali was caught more often like this he could go down. This is unlike a true Iron Chinned Warrior like MNH who was at the very most slightly buzzed but never on ***** street (see the War Round 1). So, I think we can say that there are categories of Iron Chins, and Vitali is probably not in the uppermost echelons of this prestigious domain of boxing.
Vitali gets floored by a fat old man about 30 seconds into this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thKRtRbXbpo
I've seen that fight a million times on HDTV big screen. Vitali was NOT knocked down and that is a fact, it's clear in the video even on the little Computer screen. Vitali beat the hell out of Sanders and stopped him. Lennox Lewis said himself that he avoided Sanders.....................
Exactly. While we're pulling up THROWBACK videos... Way back, does anyone have a video of Lewis getting stopped by the Russian guy in the ams?? That has to be a treat to watch! Aleksandr Miroshnichenko
The first thing is that this video is meaningless. A leg can generate more momentum than any arm ever could. Additionally, you don't have gloves on your heel, it's like hitting someone with a hammer. But Vitali's chin is immensely overrated. the only reason it is so highly ranked is that he never went down against Lennox Lewis in spite of fighting like a drunk unskilled Mexican with the old motto of taking 4 to land 1. But Lennox's power is overrated, too. bums like Levi Billup or Ossie Ocasio took Lewis's best shots without problems cruising to the distance. A bum named Zeliko something fought 12 rounds of just eating everything LL throw at him. Does this make him the hardest chin ever? Nope. Meanwhile Vitali got HURT in THE FIRST ROUND by a Corrie Sander's left straight, made a surprised face and immediately hopped on his bicycle and runned for dear life, kinda like Khan running ungracefully from Garcia. What about Chisora? Would you consider him an explosive planet demolisher? The most powerful boxer ever? Or even just an extremely skilled and conditioned one? Because Chisora cooked Vitali for their entire fight, and had his respect every time he landed something. Vitali was out of his feets on the last two rounds. Another round and he would have gone. Against Dereck Chisora. Granted, he couldn't use both his arms, but the shots he took weren't particularly impressive. And Wladimir had to keep him from collapsing after the bell. Vitali has a good chin, but it's not titanium. Many of the opponents he faced had a better one, it's just that they took too much and weren't good enough to give it back. Samuel Peter, for example, just to name one had a chin immensely better than Vitali. Vitali couldn't have survived as long as Peter under the same shots. It's often the case with non champions. they have better or equal chins than Champs, but they take more and give less.
LOL@ THIS Sam Peter had a better chin?! Vitali was out on his feet against Chisora?! Gotta be entertained by ESB
Yes and yes. Even many gatekeepers and plain bums have chins better than the champions. They just fail at everything else. Fact is, Vitali never took in his career the beating Peter took against Wladimir or even just from Vitali. And yet, with much less going on, he was in full bicycle mode with basically one single punch from Corrie Sanders. And yes, Chisora had him almost ready to go. Watch their last two rounds, you see Vitali is just carrying on forcing himself to stay up, and avoiding Chisora's hooks like the plague. He even has Chisora badly hurt at one point, and yet he doesn't go for the finish. He looks like he is too much stunned to even realize it. His chin is good, not epic. His other tools are much better. And that's why no bum could ever compete with him, in spite of their chins.
Chisora is absolute garbage and has no power and he in no way had Vitali in any trouble. He won 2 rounds so the desperate Glass Jawed Brits on here claimed that is was "Vitali's toughest fight since Lennox" :rofl Chisora is British level and has lost every time he stepped up. The guy is awful.
Well, that kick sure knocked him into next week, and he was wearing headgear... I know you don't believe in the perfect punch, how about the perfect kick?:think
Also, many of these fighters you mention were tiny compared to Lewis, whilst Vitali is a giant.. Some of these are just horrible comparisons. Imagine if Lennox punched Zab Judah?? ok..
