Sour grapes? All three were beaten before they got to the medal round, and only one of the three even had the talent to medal. China got major benefit of the doubt in the scoring, not only in boxing, but also in gymnastics, diving and Judo. Alas, the home country almost always gets the benefit of the doubt in scoring, so I can't say I'm surprised.

He was not only the 2007 World Champion, but he won it in 2005 as well

He took home gold at the 2006 Asian Games. Let's not forget his Bronze medal from the 2004 Olympics.

So after watching previous games , and hardly ever seeing a chinese fighter win a medal or end up in medal stages.. Then watching Beijings games and seeing Chinese fighters in amongst most of the latter .. (I may not have approached the subject as sensitively as i might) Pretty coarse actually, But seriously , How many Chinese Heavyweights or Superheavyweights of note have you seen at previous games or in Top World amateur rankings? Then we have one in the final of he Olympics. If he is the best or second best in the world i applaud him.. But he is no where near yet he took a medal place somehow when i know Super heavys that never got to the games that would have wiped the floor with him. Many good fighters trained thier whole lives to win something at those games, and the host nation suddenly start (co incidentially) grabbing silver in a division they never in history even featured...

anyone get my point? Or am i just blind !!!

Same thing happened in Soeul Korea.. Ray mercer had to beat a frigging Korean Heavyweight in the final to grab the Gold..

Did you ever see a decent Korean or Chinese heavy before or since?

I am not honestly being racist here , i am now putting my point as to why the host country always seem to do great.. when its supposed to be an honest level playing field..

If those exact boxers were to have boxed the same games in a convention hall somewhere in Britain or USA the Chinese heavy or Korean heavy would have both still ended up with silver medals.. I highly doubt..

So why should the home advantage count..?

You could've at least grown a dick and admitted that you made blatantly offensive comments in this thread and apologized for your remarks.

Furthermore, you also could've expressed your opinion on the matter of Olympic boxing without the use of derogatory terms or biased stereotypes. I understand how someone might be upset at the questionable judging of the Olympics, but to take out that frustration against an entire race is uncalled for. Regardless, you should at least man up and apologize rather than shrewdly tone down your post the second time around.

Do any of you even follow amatuer boxing?

Let's start with the super heavyweight, Zhang Zhilei. He has been to the last three World Championship tourneys; with his best showing in 2007 taking the Bronze. Without Vyacheslav Glazkov's elbow injury, he might have only gotten a Bronze considering that Glazkov defeated him at the Worlds. Lucky and bad breaks happen to everyone. Great for Zhilei, too bad for Glazkov.

Examining the solid credentials of Zou Shiming as I did in my previous post, his gold should not be that much of a surprise.

Welterweight Bronze medalist Hanati Silamu was medaled at both the World's and the Asian games.

The only real shocker here is at light heavyweight. Zhang Xiaoping's victory over Yerkebulan Shynaliyev is sweet revenge after Shynaliyev edged him out of the medals at the World's.

Hey bro, Its only a post.. I didn't put it out in Headline news..

I myself have been called plenty of garbage on here but never allow it to jump up my ass..

Sorry if i ****ed your day up.. Just making a pretty valid opinion known.. I have listened to many a cat on here use the N word or such and said to myself shame on them... If you'd like an apology i'd love to give you or whom i hurt a genuine sorry for the way i put the original point across was about why the host country always do so great.... even in sports areas they are by nature quite poor..

I am sorry if i did hurt or offend anyone with my original post..

I used a steriotype and a slang term that should NOT have used..

I wont stoop so low ever again.. I will expect to be banned from the forums if i do..

Sorry Buddy.. I am not by nature that way inclined, i have just seen so much about how the people that ran the Countries Olympic bid had mistreated its own in its attempt to put two weeks of athletics in Olympic history.. Those games should never have been staged there.

    My Apology is genuine....

(Now apologise for saying i have a small dick..)

    Just kidding.....

no need for the racism but obviously there was major cheating in numerous events, doping, age, judging etc...and not just the chinese...its very suspicious how the personal bests of Jamaica's sprinters from 07 improved significatnly.

So it's suspicious how the personal bests of two of Jamiaca's hundred metre runners improved in Beijing (not Asafa Powell who didn't set a best), but presumably not that an American and a Trinidadian also set personal bests in the same race?

Of course, what with it being an olympic final that they had all geared their training towards, on a brand new track specifically designed for fast sprinting, we should only expect them to run average times.

Probably you think the amount of swimming world records was suspicious too...

It's becoming quite rare these days on ESB when someone can actually post with a measure of objectivity and facts to reinforce an argument rather than blind emotion. I say we ban this guy.

I'm surprised at you, BigCat. You were (past tense) one of the more intelligent and level-headed posters. Now you're beginning to sound like one of these half-brain, insecure racist that flood this sad forum. What other aliases are you using on ESB?

Who really knows what the rationale is for the sudden explosion of Chinese boxers. If the Chinese are doing something foul I'm sure it will be revealed. But whatever these reason diversity is good for boxing.

Lots of very intelligent posters here.

I agree with Dmille, I think the only Chinese boxer that didn't belong was the LHW fighter, although I thought he might have squeaked it out against Egan. Zou, Zhilei and Hanatu looked very much the goods, although it remains to be seen how they would do in the pro game.

Doomeddisciple, recent history has shown how the Chinese are pretty much dealt a raw hand even by other Asians. Now that the Chinese are becoming a powerhouse, the other Asian countries like Japan are worried about their diminishing bargaining power.
