Explain Morales eating loads of Pacquiao shot in the 1st bout and never going down and actually winning. Then be abused terribly for 10 rounds in the rematch before finally going down late and then in the 3rd fight being dropped by any decent Pacquiao shot. Combine that with tons of vicious 12 round battles with Barrera 3x, Injin Chi, Hernendez, Chavez, Espadas, Ayala and more. Its pretty safe to say at that point this guy had lots of wear and tear on his chin. To believe otherwise is downright stupid.

Are you dumb? Toney's percentage includes him fighting all the way to heavyweight, there was no chance his punching power was going to hold up that high. What was his KO % when he fought Jones?

Good point about cruiser weight. BUt its not uncommon for most fighters to gain 10-20lb from weight in to the fight date. Look at kelly pavlik, david haye.

As far as 20lb is the extreme lets be honest here, Toney was never a middle weight truly he has stated that he was a 200lb quarterback as a teenager!

The point is that he is not in no way smaller than the light heavies johnson and tarver :good

I dont put TOO much into the Raheem fight. Morales just simply got his ears boxed clean off I dont think he took awhole lot of serious damage. I think its just clear despite Morales cleary winning the first Pacquiao fight that fight took more out of Morales then it did Pacquiao. I always talk with this in Jan 04 Morales fought 12 agianst Jesus Chavez in a phyiscal fight, July 04 with Carlos Hernendez in a flat out war, November 04 with Barrera in the FOTY and then March 05 with Pac in another instant classic. The man had 48 vicious rounds in a 14 month period and in every single fight he dehyrdated himself to cut weight. The man cleary was tearing his body apart.

Hatton is be an example of this. Though he was tired a bit late against Collazo, some suggest he got wobbled a bit in that fight from a punch. Then Floyd completely cracked his chin in their fight. Following the Mayweather fight, even a guy like Lazcano was able to put Hatton on ***** street. If not for a very helpful referee, Hatton may have been iced in that fight. Then, of course, Pacquiao completely shattered Hatton's jaw. This would be, in my opinion, the clearest and most easily identifiable example of a "cracking" chin.

John Ruiz looked china chinned against David Tua and he had a great chin throughout the rest of his career...Oscar De LaHoya, similar to Muhammad Ali, got a little bit of a bad rap early on from some knock downs and later showed he had a granite chin....Vlad has looked china chinned at times but, seems to be showing a pretty sturdy one now...It's usually mental...Some guys refuse to go 'out', see Holyfield, Mercer, JCC, Toney, etc...

Older fighters getting KO'd when previously showing great chins has more to do with getting caught cleaner (reflexes slow), not having the same muscle agility, and not having the same youthful desire to take the punishment...The wear and tear of boxing just speeds this aging process...

RJJ is in a similar category to Tommy Morrison, the light switch just turns off earlier than most...RJJ wasn't hit much in his entire career until that perfect shot put him out...Once you have had your lights turned off via concussion, it's almost never the same again...This type of 'lights out' chin gets worse every time the lights go out, repeated concussion syndrome...

The best chins almost always equal the most 'punch drunk' later in life...

Erik Morales' chin never cracked. He just fought an ATG in his prime. And in the third fight Morales didn't have it anymore, it has nothing to do with chin..

I think Margo's chin might be cracked though. I mean he was trying to be the matador in his last fight against a no namer

The evidence will be in come November 13. While I believe Mosley cracked Rockgloves' chin, if Pacquiao can't get the stoppage I will have to retract that view. Pacquiao should be able to get a slow plodder with a cracked chin out of there inside twelve.

I don't know if a great training camp can uncrack a damaged chin. Margo's chin in the Cotto fight was legendary.

    Hmm? A training camp?

Also, I believe Rockgloves' chin was sheltered in the Cotto fight because Cotto, facing what I believe to be loaded gloves, was unable to really stand and deliver at times. He felt compelled to keep on the move to avoid the overly-hard shots coming back at him. It was also a mystery how a guy who seems to throw without power was able to get stoppages. We now know why and how that happens.
