    Great example:

    Baldomir.

Canelo put his lights out in 6 rounds. The dude has been fighting for a long time, never really being that good. Not exactly a whole lot of power and relied more on being "rugged and resilient" (aka Homer Simpson/Rocky Balboa defense).

Goes 16 years without being knocked out and then gets put to bed by Alvarez in 24ish minutes.

Haters will say that Roy had a china chin that Tarver exposed, but that's b.s. Roy had an above average chin before going down in weight.

    Proof:

    A) He was only knocked down once from 1989-2004 and it was a flash knock down from a hard shot that didn't hurt him..just embarrassed him.

    B) He was hit clean on a few occasions by Ruiz (who outweighed him by over 25lbs.) at heavyweight and it didn't even slow Roy down.

    C) Roy fought bigger guys all throughout his light heavyweight reign and was never so much as hurt against anyone.

    D) Montell Griffin (a naturally bigger guy than Roy) hit Roy a lot in their fist fight and not once did he hurt him.

Right here! To answer your original question, yes chins do often get weaker with age/wear and tear. This is likely what happened to Jones, although we'll never know for sure, because he was SO talented in his prime, he didn't get hit cleanly a lot. He could have always had a glass jaw, but his amazing reflexes, timing etc. prevented it from being exposed, and then when those went south on him, his glass jaw got exposed. Or, he could just been one of those guys who had a decent chin, but as he aged, it went downhill along with other aspects of his game.

And there are others like Ray Mercer, or more recently, Baldomir, who clearly had rock solid chins for the bulk of their careers, but then, they became shaky with age. So yeah, it happens.

    :rofl

    Above average chin?

He had the athleticism to avoid the big punches. If you go back to the 90's you'd know everyone was questioning his ability to take a punch, and rightfully so since he was rarely, if ever hit flush. And yet you call his chin above average? No, above average is a Mickey Ward type of chin, Roy falls under a whole other category.

You can't fault RJJ for his chin, it wasn't good at all, but it was not like he could've done something about it, he made the most of a career one could do with that type of cheen.

I think Miranda is an example of a guy whose chin probably cracked over time. In the first fight with AA he took monster shots, and never really slowed down. After that Pavlik hit him with about 200 or more solid right hands, and stopped him. Next up AA stopped him with about 4-5 flush shots. Next Bute pretty much one-punched him.
