I suppose i was a bit harsh on vargas. Whenever i picture him its always the tito fight when he's gettin knocked silly so that kinda clouds my judgement of him
I actually think Vargas gets fairly overrated to be honest. Bit he took some massive shots and came back in wars with some top-notch fighters, no doubt he was quality.
Great Shout I may be wrong but i remember hearing he used to practice being knocked down in training as he knew he'd go down in fight due to his weight cutting causing him trouble with punch resistance. Edit:He practiced getting up and falling down and taking counts. May be bollocks..?
Yearns wasn't chinny as such, he was only badly hurt anywhere near his prime by great offensive fighters, he was of course full of heart.
Its probably a legitimate question to ponder if you think he got knocked out by 3 WW. I myself used to reckon he was chinny, and even though I reckon if he had a better chin, that he may not of got knocked out, which again might suggest you SHOULD question his chin, maybe his chin was average on reflection, as appose to chinny? like Jermain Taylor, not glass, capable of holding onto a shot, but open to getting hurt more as his stamina starts to erode over the coarse of the fight. :thumbsup
Tommy was always a bit Crazy Leg Crane, but it was not until the move to 175 (Andries fight), that his chin noticeably started to let him down. So I suppose rightly, he deserves a mention on the thread, because no one can doubt his heart, it was almost as big as his straight right.
Been floored a few times in some of my amateur fights, not since I was 18 though, Also got knocked out cold when I was sixteen. I'd like to put it down to fighting at middleweight against grown men sometimes when I really should have been at 69kg but I suppose I just don't have the toughest chin. I'm twenty now and having matured physically I find I take shots much better. I've been described in write ups as having "the heart of a lion" though. I also find when I've been down, I recover almost instantly, a part from that time I was completely lights out ofcourse
I think Vargas takes a better punch than Taylor. Being stopped by either trio of Trinidad, Mosley or DLH vs Pavlik, Froch or Abraham isn't anything to be ashamed of...... but on paper Vargas's conquerors look much more fearsome, both in terms of power and their variety as boxers. Pavlik is pretty basic with a huge right hand, Froch isn't exactly murderous and Abraham is economical in his work. Hearns and Khan are the best two shouts so far...... Hearns was about right at 154, but below he looked weak and above a bit too slender against the heavier guys, plus his willingness to get in there and have it out with an opponent counted against him. That's why his win over a peak Hill whilst past his best himself is probably his best win.
Yeah, cant argue with that. Pavlik, Froch, AA are good fighters, but they are'nt elite fighters like the aforementioned who knocked Vargas out, so yeah, got no arguments there. BTW Beeston Brawler, how your team get on tonight :conf j/k
