Stanley Ketchel - He was dropped by Joe Thomas in the 27th round of their fight, hurt by Langford, stopped by Billy Papke, a dynamite puncher after a 12 round battering and stopped with one massive right hand from Jack Johnson who outweighed him by over 30 pounds. What do you think of his chin? P4P where does it rank? I'd say it was pretty incredible. I don't think any middleweight in history would have still been standing after taking that right hand from Johnson, so no shame there. Joe Louis - I've read he was down 13 times in his career, not sure if this is an accurate number or not, KO'd twice, once after 12 rounds of acumulative damage, once after a hard 7 rounds with Rocky Marciano in his last fight. He was staggered badly by Billy Conn, who wasn't even a big puncher by light-heavyweight standards, though it is said he was dehydrated and weight drained for that fight. On the other hand he took some good right hands from Max Baer, and took other good shots from respectible punchers without seeming bothered. How do you think his punch resistance stacks up? I think he hard a pretty solid chin. A lot of his knockdowns were flash KD's and he could recover well. Jack Dempsey - Was knocked down 9 times by a journyman very early in his career when he was a 19 year old malnourished hobo. KO'd once by Jim Flynn with one right hand. Later he was knocked down two (or three) times by big puncher Luis Firpo. He was wobbled by light-heavyweight Georges Carpentier. Suffered a flash KD against Tunney after taking a beating. Thoughts? I think at his best his chin was very good, though it was his recuperative abilities and survival instincts that made him hard to stop more so than his resistance to concussive force.
