They go to the judges if the cut is caused by a headbutt, elbow or something like that. If it's punches, it's a TKO.

And Vitali started better but Lewis was clearly in control at the end.

 

Eight and a half years on and this still makes me smile.

Given the shape they were each in, it's quite difficult to predict how the second half of the fight would have unfolded. I suspect people's views will be slanted according to their loyalties as fans, but the simple fact is it was a close fight and it's just not possible to conclude that one guy was markedly superior to the other.

I don't put much stock in Lewis's decision to retire rather than rematch Vitali. It may well be the case that he didn't like the thought and on a balance of convenience, it could have been more trouble than it was worth, given his age and stage. That said, it's quite depressing in that in the view of some people, Vitali's greatest victory was therefore a fight that never happened with a 38 year old Lennow Lewis. Doesn't say much for the current crop of heavyweights.

Anyway, Lennox and Vitali are both class acts with terrifying head-to-head ability and they both deserve the respect of fans.

atschatschatsch Vitali is going strong against this opposition he would not be so strong lets say against prime Lewis, he dominates these guys so its hard to see that he is not as good as he used to be, but Vitali is so much better than these guys today so he is still strong and dominant, but this old Vitali would not be able to fight prime Lewis.

 

Vitali is tougher then Lewis imo... I'm sure he would have won the fight (no cut).

 

Vitali's corner pulled him out for his own safety... why do people ignore this?

Cotto v Margarito 1 for starters. Margarito didnt win a round in the first 6.

You dont know **** about boxing. Your talking as if Vitali won 6-0 and Lewis was ready to go. At the end of round 6 Vitali's face was ****ed up and he was the one who looked like he was ready to go.

Vitali blew it. He had an out of shape Lewis and hurt him but failed to finish the job. Lewis took all vitali's shots and was still standing hitting Vitali back and ****ing up his face. deal with it.

 

Plus Steward said Lewis admitted Vitali had hurt him and he didn't want to go through that hell again....

 

Lewis landed plenty of big shots on Vitali......did that require no skill also??
