I wish the best for Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, but I really hope this event becomes a great failure so we dont have to look at 2 old heavyweights again in a fight without sporting significance.
Pulev was down at Poplar boxing club in east London tonight. Got to say, absolute top bloke and a freaking unit of a man.
Nearly all of Matchroom fights these days lack any sporting significance - Benn and Hatton the classic examples
Met Wlad Klitschko 4 years ago and that is a huge unit with not an ounce of fat anywhere. The height of Tyson Fury and Big Dave Price is also a bit of a shock close up as they are much taller than people expect.
I dont agree with that. I think Matchroom / DAZN UK have had some unforgettable main events this year (Conlan vs Wood, Taylor vs Serrano).
So in 9 or 10 UK cards this year there's been one superb headline fight and a series of OK ones. To be honest if that had been the Sky Fight Night lineup none us would have been that surprised; Benn, Warrington, Okolie, Cordina, Buatsi, and of course Jacobs-Ryder would all have been standard fayre for the past 10 years. If you then say Chisora would have been on PPV or at worst, undercard to Whyte or Joshua's PPV, it's hard to complain that much. I used to pay 10 quid a month for BoxNation for a lot less. DAZN's schedule doesn't bother me that much and I can opt out easily (unlike BoxNation and its torture phone calls to cancel) - it's the 'casuals' image and punditry team that put me off.
Surely Delboy has made enough money to call it a day whilst he still has his health. If he carries on fighting much longer he is going to do some serious damage to himself
The way this has been built up it's almost like people (Derek included) have forgotten they fought once already and the outcome wasn't exactly disputable.
Bumped into Usyk in New York when I was hungover and carrying 4 McD's breakfasts for me and me pals. Bit of a language barrier but managed to get a photo after successfully lowering said McD's to the floor and getting my iPhone passcode right after 3 nervous failed attempts. Top bloke but not very tall.
Met your favourite paint dry Parker a few years ago. Absolutely top guy, surprised he is a boxer tbh, almost seems too nice a guy. Even his trainer Kevin Barry was a lot nicer in person than he comes across.
