This was talked about as a deadly dangerous fight for Chisora 18 months ago. Now it's one I think he wins probably similar to the Joyce fight. Thoughts.
IMHO Chisora would've beaten Wilder at almost any point. Wilder never beat anyone much better (if at all - Chisora proved competitive with much more proven opponents than Ortiz did) anyway and Chisora's style would've been bad for Wilder.
I think Wilder is now un-officially retired, in my opinion his punch resistance on a scale of 1-10 is about a 4 and his offense seems stifled . .The only thing he could accomplish from here on out is pugilistic dementia.
Chisora is not capable of fighting a full twelve rounds (to say the least); he will come out like a bull in the first two, then spend the rest of the fight languishing on the ropes winging the occasional overhand right. Even against current shot Wilder that is a dangerous strategy; I think at some point Wilder would catch him with something huge as Chisora lays on the ropes.
Wilder's punch resistance was NEVER any good. There's a reason he fought utter stiffs and handpicked fringe contender types for as long as he did. Even Ortiz and Stiverne, the only rated fighters he ever beat, were ancient when he fought them. And both gave him problems, as did several of the stiffs he padded his record with. Chisora would've knocked that glass jawed fraud out anytime they fought, just like any of the live bodies he's faced would.
Wilder in his prime knocks Chisora out. Nowadays, Chisora would outwork him, possibly knocking him out. Unlike Wilder, Chisora still has good punch resistance and has the mentality to slug it out.
Chisora was struggling against guys like Gerald Washingto for crying out loud. Prime for prime Wilder would knock out Chisora in a few rounds tops. Not because how good Wilder is but because Chisora was never anything special. Him beating Joe Joyce doesn't change that fact.
And Wilder struggled against Artur ****ing Szpilka "for crying out loud" - he only finally found that chin of finest glass when Szpilka started trying to do more than survive in order to avoid being robbed on the cards. Wilder was never anything special either - a wildly overhyped one trick pony who got a massively overinflated reputation off the back of fighting primarily poor opponents. Chisora was a well proven gatekeeper with an unpleasant style that pretty much nobody enjoyed fighting against - and which would've been particularly unpleasant for Wilder. Wilder wasn't really any more proven, was much less willing to take hard fights and got A-side privilege (for example, referee saving him against Ortiz, a heinously inept card preventing him losing Fury 1) whilst Chisora would fight anyone and often got the raw end of things (Parker 1, Whyte 1, etc). Complete seriousness, I genuinely think Chisora would've beaten him.
Wilder is past expiration IMO. Solid career, a little inflated based on the resume, but hey, he was a world champ, has money and seems to have his faculties still. Needs to move on IMO.
I agree, but he can't move on to anything else. The dude is as dumb as a rock, the only job he could perform well in is professional boxer. He is rich enough to never work again, but is he smart enough to manage his fortune that way?
I just heard an interview with Del Boy where they asked him about Anderson getting knocked out and he said most American heavyweights don’t have any dog in them. I tend to agree with him but Wilder might be the only exception in recent times.
