    1. Sonni's alright, we can't all fight like Sugar Ray Leonard.

    2. I like Choc because I can see past all the negativity but I ain't just a "Mundine fanboy" In fact I still rate him behind Australian greats such as Jimmy Carruthers, Kostya Tszyu, Les Darcy, Lionel Rose and the great Young Griffo.

    3. CURRIED LAMB CUTTLETS??? We ain't talking about tripe, black pudding or haggis or whatever the hell you peasants eat, this is top quality Australian Lamb mate!!! :thumbsup

You don't have Fenech in that bunch? :huh I'd have Harding in front of Anthony as well. His 2 wins against Andries, both away from home (Atlantic City and London) are bigger than Choc's best W's.

I wasn't suggesting that these are the only Australian fighters I rate in front of Anthony Mundine. I guess they're the top 5 of the lot though.

Actually I could easily add another 5 while even going as far as putting his old man in front of him, No?

Top 5 Australian ever? You know how tough something like that is. If I said yes but let you find the spot for him, who would you take out?

Despite his wins over Vic Toweel, Fenech is definitely above Jimmy Carruthers. Young Griffo is in there somewhere. I'd probably rate Jeff above Darcy as the world never got to see the Maitland Wonder's best.

Fai enough, you'd rate Fenech above Carruthers....I don't, but that's the thing about ranking any fighters over more than a century, it's subjective.

It get's even harder when you look at fighters during periods of war and depression, when plenty of our great fighters were restricted to Australia and never got to show the world how great they really were.

It's almost impossible to rank guys like Harding, Vic Patrick, Peter Jackson, Jack Carroll, Hector Thompson as well as the guys mentioned above.

I even have trouble splitting Choc and his old man.

I agree. Personally I think Fenech's multiple weight titles and also his performance against Nelson in Vegas counts for a lot. One of the greatest performances by an Aussie ever.

I don't really consider Jackson as Australian, although he's probably got every right to be there. He'd be in my 5 as well.

I can't deny what Fenech achived was spectacular. What must be remembered is that many of the fighters I mentioned fought in an era when boxing was THE No.1 sport, and Australia one of the great boxing nations. To become Australian champion in itself was a wonderful achievement.

As for Peter Jackson, he came to Australia as an infant, went to school and worked here then went on to win the Australian title. After going to the US in his failed bid for a world title fight against the immortal JL Sullivan he came back home and died in Australia.
