I lost touch with the division for a little bit and I don't really know what the hardcore fans think of the guy Gonzalez beat or how much it affects his legacy, but I'd be interested in any replies about that. Really happy for him regardless.
This place is full of fair weather fans who'll drop a fighter after one loss against a great opponent. Give me a break. Gonzalez is amazing. If you can't see that, you don't know boxing.
Hell yes! His lack of size at the higher weight is the only thing that stopped him. Awesome fighter. What's not to like about Roman? Humble, soft spoken and always trying to accomplish more today than yesterday. For fans that hate on Wilder, you should be loving Roman, start making more threads about how great the Chocolate one is and less threads about how much you hate Wilder.
I believe Gonzalez has achieved enough to be compared to Lopez. IMO he has accomplished more and has a much better resume. And this is coming from a huge Finito fan.
I watched Gonzalez for the first time this weekend. Man if that guy was 30lbs heavier and a few inches taller, his elite skillset would have been fun to see against guys like Khan, Thurman, Garcia, Brook, Spence etc
The word great is probably the most over used phrase in boxing,,but in this Case Roman Gonzalez is a truly GREAT fighter. I rank him very highly . Pound for pound I'd personally put him higher than Mayweather
Now, after all is said and done, the fact remains that Martinez had no business in that ring with Chocolatito. He simply wasn't polished enough. Everybody in a hurry to get these young fighters some kind of a title shot and hoping that they get lucky.
I don't know why, but those last 3 rounds I just had a feeling Roman was going to get caught and slept. Martinez was hurt but still able to throw back on occasion and even put some stuff on a couple shots. It would have been an awful end to the fight. Excellent work by Chocolatito but would like to see him retire now. His style of fighting doesn't age well and it can only be downhill from here.
