Promoter Spencer Fearon compares the fight to those that took place between the Murderers’ Row boxers in the 1940s and 1950s when legendary names like Charles Burley and Lloyd Marshall fought each other multiple times because they were not able to get title shots. “These two are the modern-day equivalent of those guys,” Spencer Fearon said. “They are the antithesis of the protected fighters you see so often these days. Real warriors, without perfect records – partly due to getting jobbed. “As a boxing historian I’m so disappointed there’s no footage of the two fights between Ezzard Charles and Charles Burley for instance" :rofl Well, ol' Spence is going way overboard on his comparisons, but his point in bolt is very true indeed; when trying to assess a fighter, it is frustrating when there is no footage. If Choi wins this big and gets a title shot with Burns or a fight with Stephen Smith or summat (hypotheticals before anyone starts bleating) I'd like the footage to support a hypothesis on the outcome either way, and would like to assess the ability of the challenger from his most recent fight. In a weird way, it's similar to Burley and Charles, but not in the way that you're yearning because the stylistic analysis would make your brain fall out of your skull and for your leg to involuntarily stomp it to mush. But in the way it's an interesting fight; and we all like to see interesting fights ;-) :happy
Great news. Spencer is the only promoter in the UK that can promote (or is willing to promote) foreigners. We would have a much healthier scene if we started to make the most out of fighters like these two but they get left out.
Ciaran and I had a meeting about this last week and the technology is sound. Always looking forwards these boys!
This is quality. I'll be there but I wonder for those who can't be who will they be watching at 10pm: Joe Murray vs No Mark or Choi vs Asiku?
Spencer training Choi! Is he gonna be serving in the bar as well?[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te0wMGkZ3AI[/ame]
