I was just thinking, big boxing fan that I am, I'm still not 100% clear on the "order" of Titles (Belts), which is THE One Belt, and which follow after that... I know basically, WBA, WBC, IBF and it waters down after that. BUT that aside, EXCLUDING All the ****, which Champion's DON'T really have a Belt; and/or NEVER would/could NOT have won the Real one? it surely must exclude dozens of them.
Librado Andrade , (must have been) IBF supermiddleweight champion of d world . lost it in d rematch . should have gotten more title shots based on it but instead proved himself as a high risk low reward due 2d lack of paper credentials . David Tiberi , IBF middleweight champion of d world . Just as big n achievement as Roy Jones' at 168 3 yrs later .
the problem is that there is no main belt these days. even the ring magazine belt is now meaningless because of rule changes and being owned by golden boy. being a great fighter is about who you beat and when you beat them. the titles, for fans at least, are pointless now. it wouldn't matter if pac or mayweather had a belt. you know you're watching the best when they're in the ring.
Most of d "legitimate" weren't d best in their respective classes so what does it matter . color line / avoiding of d best / whatever . WSJ and his middleweight predecessors avoided Charley Burley and Lloyd Marshall whom both would have become d middleweights champions of d world at least 4 a short while but weren't given d opportunity . Marshall did decision LaMotta , but it wasn't 4 d title . Pernell Whitaker could not take d championship like it should from any1 but Juan Nazario whom is of course just 1 example of what u meant .
frankenfrank, I know this better, or just as much as other serious fans, I know... what I'm saying, OK now we can include da Champs too. which Mickey Mouse boys WOULD NEVER have been A Real Champion, because of their Real Top Contender (or in the case of A Real Champion), were simply just better; would never have been. i.e Kelly Pavlik. maybe start with one division at a time, OK the HW's.
Kelly Pavlik would have become a champion most probably . Who in his own era would have beaten him ? suppose it's Abraham , what happens in a rematch ? U underrate Kelly Pavlik . It doesn't take as much as u think 2 become "d champion" , 2 wrong out of 3 scorecards may be enough , weak division may be enough , partisan referee may be enough , greater contender being sidelined due 2 a decision (b it either right or wrong) may be enough , etc .
