Anyone remember when Hipp fought Seldon on I think it was the undercard of Tyson-Mcneely...Damn that was a cut!
I have been mulling it over some, and I have come to the conclusion that I can totally see Arreola taking this fight by decision, as he seems to be the more active of the two. However, with Hipps tendency to swell around the eyes (see Bruce Seldon fight) I wouldn't rule out a stoppage in one form or the other for Arreola.
Nice man. There is some good produce coming out of Yakima (makes me hungry just thinking about it). Redmond huh? Nice. I have family in Redmond as well. If you haven't been back up that way in a while, you will be amazed when you finally do; it has changed SO much over the past few years. Hell even the past few months.
I remember seeing the Joe Hipp vs Tommy Morrison fight on TV, tough tough dude Joe Hipp, and a decent boxer, I was willing him to win but I guess Morrison was the better athlete in the end
:yep:verysad The more conditioned one I would say. I was rooting for Hipp all the way as well. I really wanted him to win that one being a huge fan and a WA native as well. Gosh, I gotta get a couple of his fights on dvd somewhere.
Arreola stops him late, or maybe wins on cuts. Hipp was a tough guy, but not very skilled. Arreola's not super skilled either, but he's a tad better than Hipp.
Not that i remember, i lived in bellingham 5 years and im 39, so im a Southern Cali boy but I do miss washington moved there when i was 8 and left when i was 13. I lived in the fairhaven district, use to go to Mt Vernon for good Mexican food. Then my parents opened there own in bellingham. Anyways i got great memories of Bellingham the 5 years there are as impressionable as 20 years hear, in a different way. Miss the greenery and the small town atmospher especially know that this Crazy La lifestyle has gotten old. Any ways hope to hear from you, Im new to ESB but since ive been here im always chopping itup:hi:
Nice. Good to hear a positive outlook on WA sir. Fairhaven district is nice, but it has been a while since I have been up that way. The food in general is great in Bellingham as it is a nice little college town. Do your folks still have a restaurant up that way?
No my parents sold the restaurant when we moved back down here, I lived with all the rich kids up there and had a big culture shock when i came back here and moved into the hood:bbb, but Western Washington is a very nice historic looking college, I lived about 1 1/2 miles from there. The first time i ever boxed in a real gym was up there , when i was 8 but i guess they had problems with funding. Do they have any good gyms going on up there in Nwest washington state?
Darn, I was gonna go to the restaurant tonight, lol. Yeah, WWU is a great college, I am thinking about going there myself after I get my transfer degree. I think it was the liability that chased boxing out of WWU and pretty much every other school out there. Sadly, WA isn't really a big boxing state, so there aren't many gyms to speak of.
You know back in the days when i was living out there was some good fighters out of the seattle/tacoma area In fact champs like rocky lockridge,Leo Randolph(gold medalist),Johnny Bumphus and pinklon thomas(altough og from michigan)made his mark in washington and also Gold medalist Sugar Ray Seals who fought Hagler to a draw but was knocked out in the first in a rematch, and who can forget Greg Haugen old timers too like Freddie Steele.
I get to Redmond every few months, it's crazy, when I was a kid there was nothing down there now it's blown up. The Seldon-Hipp fight actually made me believe that Bruce had a chance against Tyson. Almost as bad as my prediciton that Jorge Luis Gonzales was going to knock out Bowe. I miss good heavyweight scraps, maybe Haye will bring some of that back. Don't fool yourself with Yakiam though, it's straight Ghetto, I think we are number 3 for highest rate of stolen cars in the Country. Luckily I live in a small town attached to Yakima which is about 10 times nicer.
:yep Yep. Seattle was a pretty big boxing place back in the day, but not anymore. I might mention that Boone Kirkman came from WA as well. The Renton area. There are still a few gyms hanging around (Bumblebee's springs to mind) but for the most part, boxing just isn't going well in WA.
