"The last time I fought a southpaw was obviously Manny Pacquiao and I wasn't working with John then, but being left-handed is the only thing that Spence and Pacquiao have in common. They aren't anything alike...I've had great success in the past with southpaws. I have fought many of them in my career...Other than Pacquiao, I've beaten every southpaw that I ever fought...He's got a lot of new experiences he's going to have to deal with coming up on fight night," stated former world champion Chris Algieri PC: John David Jackson has been known over the years for preparing fighters for southpaw opponents. Errol Spence Jr. is a southpaw. Do you feel like you are fully prepared for not only what he brings to the table skill-wise, but also his southpaw stance? CA: Absolutely! The last time I fought a southpaw was obviously Manny Pacquiao and I wasn't working with John then, but being left-handed is the only thing that Spence and Pacquiao have in common. They aren't anything alike. Honestly, nobody fights like Pacquiao. The guy is a freak. He just fought over the weekend against Tim Bradley and everyone is questioning whether he's in it or not and he still beats top guys handily. He is something special and something different when trying to compare southpaws. But I've had great success in the past with southpaws. I have fought many of them in my career. Again, I've never been the guy to pick my opponents. My first two fights as a pro were against southpaws, which is very rare (laughing). Other than Pacquiao, I've beaten every southpaw that I ever fought. I feel very prepared going into this fight in terms of the southpaw-orthodox matchup. more on fighthype maybe chris but bear in mind you fought a declined pac and eroll is in his prime actually the fight should of really been stopped in round 9 against pac the count was way to long fights got stopped for less
who else thought in the 9th round against Pac the fight should of got stopped? The ref did a horrible job in that round
Prime Pacquiao takes 4 rounds tops to finish Algieri. But Spence is still a prospect. But I think he's the real deal.
You're acting like Chris is some kind of push over. At the very least the guy knows how to survive and can fight and dig deep when needed. I'm not saying CA is a world beater, but he's also not some hapless goof that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to boxing.
He's going to look completely hapless from round 2 until he's stopped, which will be before the 8th ends
You think he stops him by going to the body? Spence has a solid body attack, and if he commits to it he might be able to slow CA down enough that he gets the stoppage. I still think Chris sees the final bell, but loses widely.
