Interesting fight. Question is though, before Mattysse lost this weekend, how do you think Algieri would do against hard hitting Mattysse? Either one of those fights seem interesting to me
Don't agree with this at all, there was nothing controversial about the Ruslan decision, Chris basically won the last 11 rounds by outworking him and a lot of the shots people thought Ruslan was landing he was slipping. Algieri should have had a draw against Khan and was easily able to adjust his style from being a retreating counter puncher to a come forward pressure fighter in two months with JDJ and that isn't easy to pull off, Chris as IB pointed out is incredibly versatile and has beaten or drawn with every one he's faced except for Pacquiao, which there's no shame in losing to, in spite of what half of the loons on this site may believe.
I don't agree at all mate. I don't suggest Ruslan was robbed against Algieri but he certainly didn't lose it convincingly. Algieri's career was based on that (let's say close) win in the way that both Pac and Khan picked him because he was the world champ who was easiest to beat. Khan beat him very clearly(around 8-4 on most people's cards) and I don't expect Algieri to beat any top contender in the future. We'll see when such a match up happens. His best bet would be against someone like Jessie Vargas whom I find as mediocre as Algieri.
I think you're badly underrating Algieri, the rounds in Ruslan/Algieri were close but like I said before he was able to edge the majority of them. And nothing was clear about Khan/Algieri many of those rounds were razor close, many people on the RBR had it a draw some gave it to Algieri some gave it to Khan, but it wasn't a 8-4 by any means.
:goodI joke scored it 8-4 Algieri:yep but in reality I had it a draw, I just checked IntentionalButt, Abuffy, Slick N Jewish, Metal Licker, Canucks9314, HamburgBuam, From.Russia, UnleashtheFury Rumsfeld all had it a draw as well.
Think it's safe to say Postol was an unappreciated commodity. Too bad most vehemently hate his fighting style and traits. After the way he just defeated Matthysse relatively easily, I strongly favor Postol to do a number on Algieri. He'd have Algieri plodding forward into his shots all night. Algieri isn't the kind to sit back feet planted setting traps with great success. And he would certainly have close to no chance of hurting Postol. Then again Algieri seems to never be returning to 140 so probably not too likely to happen now.
Im sorry but there's no way can you give Algieri 6 rounds in that fight. Certain folk had it close because they hate on Khan simple as that
I selected Postol UD. Algieri is- IMO- resilient and improving but not yet very good. Khan barely beat him, which does not say much for Khan. I believe he out-boxed Provo, which does not say much about Provo's boxing skills. Postol I believe to be good all around, though I do not know about his power. If he outscores fighters as easily as he did Matthysse, there are plenty of wins out there for him.
Postol is a better boxer and has more experience. Algieri is an overachiever imo, he just started boxing in 2008 without amateur background, and without a proper trainer.
