The tubby Arreola plonked down in the 50's versus the contenders of that era. Baker Layne Valdes Henry etc Would he be a contender?
considering that Areola was outboxed by a 35 year old former light heavy in Adamek who hadn't done anything to warrant a heavyweight rating, I think he fairs poorly in most eras.. I wouldn't favor him to beat any of the above, though he might get lucky and knock one or two out with a big shot.
From 2008 to around 2013, Chris Arreola was a solid, legit heavyweight contender. Since his rematch with Stiverne, he hasn't been. But he was a legit contender for about five or six years. In the 1950s, I'm sure THAT Chris Arreola would a top 10 heavyweight. Probably top 5 in some of those years. Many of the ranked heavyweights back then fluctuated between light heavy and heavy. I don't think Arreola (when he was a contender) would've had a problem beating most of them. Arreola lost a majority decision to Adamek during his own peak years. It was a very close fight. Adamek had to keep moving out of fear of being stopped. I'm sure some of the 50s contenders would do the same thing. But I think Arreola would stop his fair share as well. He wouldn't be a champion, but he'd be a top contender for most of the 1950s.
How many non-title 15 rounders among heavyweights were there in the 1950s? I know Moore-Valdes was as an eliminator. Can't think of any others. Otherwise, Arreola would be fighting 10 rounders. And he had no trouble going the distance when he was a top heavyweight from 2008 to 2013.
so he cant get past eliminators for sure so hes not a top contender. now u admit his stamina is an issue lets move onto his skills, or lack of them. i'm hoping u r not of the school of thought that his fat layers magically make up for lack of skill.
What? Yes, his stamina would be a problem over 15 rounds. Fighting Rocky Marciano over 15 rounds would be a problem for him, too. :yep I said he'd be a top contender. He wouldn't be fighting other top contenders over the 15 round distance. He'd be fighting guys like Heinz Neuhaus and Bob Dunlap and Don C0ckell and Tommy Harrison and Tommy Hurricane Jackson over 10 rounds. And I think the Arreola of 2008-2013 would blow most of them out.
What? When did Nino Valdes win a 15-rounder? Are you saying he wasn't a top contender? Hell, he was the number-one contender for a while. Arreola would do fine against most of the 50s top 10. But he wouldn't become champ.
Oh please. You watch boxing, right? Are we going to have to have a debate on whether Chris Arreola was actually a contender once upon a time? Which Heinz Neuhaus tape or Bob Dunlap tape demonstrated to you that either had the skills to beat the Arreola who knocked out Jameel McCline, for example? The 50s contenders weren't loaded by any means.
Yes. Chris Arreola's performance against Jameel McCline. Which Bob Dunlap fight tape did you see (since I'm assuming you weren't alive then) that leads you to believe Bob Dunlap - a highly rated heavyweight in the 1950s - would beat that version of Chris Arreola? You asked for an example. I gave you one. So you give me your example. How does Bob Dunlap beat the 2009 version of Arreola?
