What would Steve Cunningham do when Shogun Rua starts kicking the **** out of his legs/knees ? You will probably say Steve would just throw a jab and knock him the **** out i suppose.
What does WWE even have to do with this thread or what you said in your previous post? Comparing MMA to WWE, is pretty much equal to me saying you believe in Rocky Balboa. Which you probably do, because of that fantasy **** you're talking. Stick to the subject.
There aren't really alot of traditional martial artists in MMA these days anyway, MMA is becoming a style of it's own usually combining the striking of boxing, kick boxing and or muay thai (thai boxing) with the ground game of freestyle wrestling and Brazilian Jui Jitsui and yes, those "martial arts" are all proven to be effective in prize fighting and street fighting.
Just make a little breakdown here... Fisrt of all, I don't watch MMA (have seen some youtube clips but thet's it) but I do watch K1 (no grabbing allowed but kicks are). There have been a few crossovers in the past from big names in boxing, for instance Francis Botha, Ray Mercer and Shannon Briggs. Botha won only 2 bouts and lost 7, in one he won his opponent got injured, not by Botha's doing (it was 2004, 2 years after the 8th round loss to Vitali). Mercer got KO'd inside half a minute, Shannon Briggs KO'd his opponent in about a minute. I'm sure there are MMA crossovers also, maybe both ways so you never know what will happen. I guess it has to do with what they rely on the most in their own sport and how much they can use it in the other. A MMA guy who relies on groundwork, and wrestling technics probably won't do good in a boxing match. A K1 fighter who relies on his kicking abilty would also be a problem with a crossover. A boxer who relies on his mobility and sticking and moving actross the ring will probably have nothing going for him in MMA or K1, a huge puncher with big upperbody strength however probably has good chances in either sport.
Rua won't get off any meaningful kicks, his only chance is to get a takedown, but most likely instead shits his pants and gets KTFO by Cunningham.
Pointless topic. I guess there is someone on an MMA saying exactly the same thing about putting a boxer in a MMA fight. Its pointless. They are not the same sport. MMA fighters have to defend against take downs and kicks and must learn to grapple, so they have a lot more to take in. Hence the term "Complete fighters" For them to perfect boxing skills alone is near impossible as they must take in so many different styles to compete. Its also not going to help them defend against other types of attacks. boxing fans who dismiss MMA (puertorrican) know nothing about the sport.
you just listed three old over the hill shot fighters.. of course they're going to lose they went to k1 to look for a payday since they couldnt get one in boxing.. tell me when a top boxer in his prime crossover then you can tallk :hat
