The British based "Boxing News" ended its write-up (reported by Kenneth Sam-Bouhairie) of the Arreola-Witherspoon bout with this passage: I'd make Arreola a solid favourite to beat anyone in the top 10. Jason Estrada, 13-1 (3), has already challenged him publicly. Not sure how he fares against "Dr Stell Hammer" but his power alone makes him a good bet to pull off the upset there as well. America, fear not - your saviour has arrived. Is Arreola the saviour? Comments?
No ... he doesn't have much speed and thats going to hurt him against top notch opposition. He also hasn't went the full 12 as of yet --
Hey, didn't say I agreed with it; just passing on the info. In my opinion its mountain out of mole-hill type ****. Just wondered what everyone else thought is all.
I have only seen him fight a couple of times and he seems to have very slow hands and feet and just plods after his opponents. He does seem quite powerful though. Whats his chin like? Has he been floored/badly wobbled yet?
I think that someone will ultimately test his conditioning ... he's soft around the mid-section and if he gets enough punches to the stomach - he will slow down tremendously and get fatigue. Lennox had broke him down from just watching the fight -- He said that Arreola was open for the left uppercut and that if Witherspoon wouldve used his jab more and step stepped him - it wouldve been a different fight.
I'll be rooting for Arreola as he climbs the boxing ladder but he is very one dimensional. He barely throws punches when he's in the center of the ring and he is sloppy which will cost him against a solid counterpuncher. If a fighter can stop from getting cornered against the ropes against him and staying there, Arreola is cooked. That said, he hits hard, is aggressive with a solid workrate, and appears to have at least an ok chin. If he polishes up his technique and loses a little weight he will be able to compete with anyone.
Arreola looks a little too slow and plodding to be anything truly special. Still, I think he'll always be fun to watch. I mean he's already starting to turn me into a fan.
Haye would blast this bum out in 3 rounds, American HW's really are in a sad state if this is your new great hope.
Right now, yes, but give him a little more time to develop. He's an active heavyweight with good power, if he polishes up his game a bit, like maybe going to the jab more often and moving his head on the way in, he's going to be a legit contender.
He should really get his weight down as well if he wants to continue moving up the ranks. A guy with his build should be no bigger than 230 and he might even be able to shed a few more pounds than that. We have enough fatass Samuel Peter types in this lackluster heavyweight division and we certainly don't need another one.
