I really didnt see much in him when he first came out but arreola is starting to grow on me. I saw him live back in 07 on the Margarito/WIlliams undercard and i thought he was another out of shape pretender but after watching all his fights leading up to the Mcline fight, I see him differently now. He has two things going for him: Punching power and determination.. One thing i see in him which i havent seen from the other young contenders is FIRE... He has that dog inside of him and he's looking to knock his opponents out.. He's not gonna outbox you or fight out of his comfort zone. Instead he'll do what he does best and fight aggressively, trying to knock the guy's head off. I was very impressed by his uppercuts too.. Wlad has been fighting a bunch of timid guys who were afraid to get inside and fight him but Arreola wouldn't do that. He'd make Wlad fight and hopefully land something big.. The guys always gives funny ass interviews too..lol How many of u are starting to see him in a different light?
I see him in a much worse light now than when I first saw him (he had been on a couple of WNF or MSG cards I think, and his first big exposure I want to say was on the Mayweather-Baldomir undercard against Wills). Basically, he hasn't improved much as a fighter since he first started, his conditioning appears to have gotten worse (he was around 235 against Wills), and he's actually stopped doing some things that he used to do okay, like moving his head. He showed a little bit of improvement again in his last fight against McCline, but he seriously should be miles ahead of where he is right now in terms of technique, considering his pedigree and how advanced he was when he was first starting to make a name for himself.
i like him a lot better and give him more credit than previously but all in all i still think he's a fat slob that would get demolished by the klits
Would love to see Haye against this slob. Hed school him, dance a round him and then spark him out. Unfortunately he has to fight 17 Klits before we'll get the chance to see this
I am a believer in Arreola, you said it right, he has the fire in him. He has an awesome uppercut too. I have heard some people say he is one dimensional, but that is so bogus. Haven't they been watching his fights??? He can throw some combinations with those heavy hands of his, and really do quick damage on his opponent. He reminds me of George Foreman in that sense. I don't care if the little fools on this forum chastise me for saying that, but his heavy hands and the abilty to Ko people in a quick fashion, and the viciousness in his eyes, and the fact (like you said) he wants to knock people heads off, it brings me flashbacks of Foreman. It will take a great Hw to beat this guy. I only have one thing to say to anyone who fights Arreola....Get your chins ready!!!
Any Haye fanatic would not want to see their boy fight Arreola. Arreola would apply so much big pressure on Haye, Haye wouldn't know what to do. If Fragameni backed Haye up, Arreola would back him up silly. I would pay 1000 dollars to see Haye fight Arreola. There would be a knock out heard round the world!!! Haye doesn't have to fight the Klitschkos. It's a free world, he can do whatever he wants. But, if Haye is gonna get Kod by a real heavyweight, he might at least get some money for his troubles, so he is choosing K2, instead of Arreola. Haye would get killed by Arreola. You don't believe it, but he would. KNOCK OUT HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD!
I always knew he hit hard and had some fundemental skill, but thats it. Until he gets his fat ass into shape and learns some footwork and defense he will get crushed by the top HW's. If McCline was motivated he probably would have KO'd Arreola when he had him in trouble in the 3rd round or whatever round that was.
Yes, he is a lot like Foreman offensively, only without quite as much power, and without actually training his ass off, and without semblance of defense. Watch the Ring Life on Arreola. He said he got rid of his old trainers and hired this kid (and he is a kid) because they get along well and he feels like the new trainer gets more out of him. However, the minute he gets this trainer, he balloons up 30 pounds and abandons a lot of the techniques that were helping him out. Sounds to me like he fired his trainer because he didn't like being pushed HARD, and his current trainer doesn't do that. It's really a bad sign for me about where his head is at. He has enough heart inside the ring, but he just seems to have no drive outside of it.
You know I wouldn't mind him if he actually tried to prepare for a fight. But the way he looked was ****ing disgraceful.
While watching him fight, George Foreman did cross my mind for a split second.. That's not a bad comparison.. He's not the most skilled or the most fit, but he fights like a hungry fighter and he has the punching power to back it up and those qualities can take him far in the HW division. :good
