I think Billam Smith will win a decision. I really can’t see it being a KO, as he doesn’t have the punching power. But Billam Smith is the better fighter. I think he will impose himself on the fight and dominate as the ring general. McCarthy will be too passive and content to stay on the stay outside looking for counter punching chances. It is clear from listening to McGuigan at the presser that he knows how the fight is going to pan out, and he has the right tactics defined. Billam Smith will be looking to force McCarthy back on the inside and hurt McCarthy at close quarters.
I’m going to go against the grain here and back McCarthy. He’s on great form at the moment, and has mixed it at a higher level than CBS and has some good European level wins. Their mutual performance against RR is a factor, but I felt McCarthy had been doing well until he was stopped but clearly since that loss he has changed things up and it’s working well for him. The fact that Matchroom have signed McCarthy tells me Hearn see’s him as a live dog in this one.
CBS will stop Tommy, no doubt about that to me, he is one of the most underrated British fighters really has gone under the radar. TKO rounds 7-10
I know it's slightly off topic but anyone have any idea what's happened to Riakporhe? Racked up some very good domestic wins, including these two back-to-back but disappeared for 2 years
He turned down the chance to face Okolie at 2 weeks notice back in December 2020. This content is protected Whatever the story is, if you are 2 years out of the ring following 3 great wins. Convid or not. Something is seriously going wrong behind the scenes. No one plans on being benched for 2 years in the middle of their prime. He talks about "too many distractions in London". Talks about a new trainer Angel Fernandez. But why hasnt he fought a lick 8 months since this interview?
I agree, I think Tommys the more naturally talented but don't think he lives the life the way CBS does and this could well be what makes the difference tonight.
Tommy is a very tidy boxer at times but don't think he's got the conditioning or chin to outbox CBS the whole 12 rounds, that Laggoune fight was awful. Still the fight of the night for me anyway.
