After turning pro Byrd stick s to boxing rather than body building. He's at light heavy around 1997 ,and at this more natural fighting weight ,whilst he's not a devastating puncher he has a decent punch. He also retains his style of fighting that he has as heavy. He picks up a belt around this time and makes a few defences ,Virgil Hill etc .So he and Jones sign to meet .Who takes it ?
Cheers pal.It was reading a article a while back that brought up the idea of Bryd ,not building himself up and being light heavy around 97 /98 .Just as Jones regained his belt from Montell G.And Byrd being a fan favorite at the weight with a decent punch. How he'd go on if he and Roy actually met.
I don't think Byrd could make Jones respect him enough and Jones hits harder then Byrd. And Jones can match Byrd in speed. I think it would be difficult but Jones wins a close decision.
Montell Griffin who was crafty and had similar style to Byrd gave Jones Jr difficulties in their first fight. Chris Byrd would be discipline and out point Jones Jr on pts.
I rank PRIME RJJ very highly. That said, I’ve always thought Byrd would be a handful for him at the lighter weight. Although they’re buddies, I’ve always fantasized about seeing Byrd vs Toney.
