Chris Byrd - Could He Have Beaten Wilder?

Redbeard and King Wilder are the same person.

 

We have no way of knowing if Wilder was better than guys Lewis and Wlad beat due to his terrible resume. His long reign isn't an argument due to the dire quality of opposition. If Deontay Wilder had wins over Povetkin, Joshua, Hrgovic, Bakole, etc you might be able to make some sort of argument but he doesn't and even the Ortiz win is somewhat tarnished due to Ortiz being past it.

Wilder has two wins over clear top 10 guys in Ortiz and Stiverne. That's wildly at odds with proving he's better than anyone Lewis beat.

 

His resume is better than any prime fighter either of them beat, with the lone exception of Vitali.

 

Byrd is far more proven but I'd probably be more likely to watch Wilders fights. That said, Byrd definitely can befuddle Wilder but one question remains: For how long? Even w Byrds skills, Wilder always has that punchers chance.

 

Byrd isn’t more proven. He wouldn’t get a draw with Fury or beat Ortiz x 2. He barely managed to defend against McCline and Golota, much less make ten defenses.

 

Vitali win is better than anything Wilder has done IMHO tho tbf Byrd did not shine in that fight he was lucky as hell.

 

In other words, it proves little and isn't better than anything Wilder has done.

I wouldn't put him ahead of Povetkin who has Chagaev Chambers and Whyte or Tua with Rahman and Oquendo.

Plus McCall has Lewis himself and Akinwande.

 

He's a ten defense and never took bad Ls like those guys. History will agree with me.

 

Povetkin's only prime loss (2008-2015) is Wladimir.

The Wlad loss was bad in the sense that Povetkin didn't win a second of that fight. Wilder managed a draw with Fury and almost stopped him in two of their three fights.

Povetkin wasn't a champion and blew his chance to fight Wilder due to PEDs. Wilder made ten defenses.

Povetkin beat a lot of B- level guys, probably more than Wilder. But Wilder beat three top 5 guys between the Ortiz wins and Stiverne 1, and got a draw with Fury who is basically an ATG when he actually shows up. I think an aging Chagaev and Whyte were the only top 5s who Povetkin beat and both were terrible as far as top 5 heavies go.

Wilder is already going in the history books ahead of Povetkin.
