I had a figher box Povetkin in Manheim on the undercard of Byrd v Wlad....

2 years later Bird is himself fighting Povetkin in the exact same arena...

Ring Magazine was always a big "Klit fan", they made Byrd top HW already before Wlad beat him, just to make Wlad look better.

For a smaller man, he did pretty well.

    I hope he retires uninjured.

I was surprised he made 175. I was shocked how he was destroyed. I am shocked that he decided to come back for more. I hope he doesn't get hurt. If he happens to actually win expect him to get destroyed after being given a big name shot.

Byrd is finished and should hang them up.

He got beaten up by Povetkin who is an average fighter.

Going down all the way to LHW was probably not a good idea, but he was shot anyway. After his prime (which ends probably about Holyfield fight), he needed some help already to get the "win" over Oquendo and the "draw" with Golota. He was shot by the time he met Povetkin, and changing the division could not help at this point.

He may do slightly better in CW than in LHW (well, whatever he does cannot be worse), but I don't see him going back to the top. His style relied mostly on speed and reflexes, and now they are gone.

Right, Byrd was never a champion, per say, he merely held one of four titles.

But if he's feeling good, and feels more himself at cruiser, and is healthy enough to fight......I say more power to him. Good luck, Byrd. :good

He should have moved to Cruiser first rather than straight to Light-Heavy. At least then the weight loss could have been more gradual and he would have felt what it wa slike at Cruiser before making a decision to go down further. its a big drop from Cruiser to Light-Heavy.

In anycase some promoter will be wanting to squeeze whats left out of Byrds name. And it looks nice having a up in comming Cruiser prospect get a win over a former Heavyweight Champ.

I sure hope this is one of those simple 'paying the bills' kind of fights.

Because Byrd is simply too shopworn to compete at the top level anyone. He can't evade the heavyweight blows as he used to, so he damn sure can't evade the cruiser blows.

Byrd should roll over his opponent, if he doesn't look good at CW he may want to call it quits.
