With a forum name like rapidfire, you must be the objective one on this thread! :!:

Chris Byrd in an interview with Boxing writer Tim Smith, called WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko a joke. He said that Danny Williams was nothing more then a punching bag and he

"Did you see Frankenstein in that ring? I hope I get to fight him. He's a joke. (Williams) was a 270-pound punching bag. I wish I had that kind of punching bag in my gym." said Chris Byrd

That´s a lie, Vitaly never tried to get a rematch, he let his brother solve the puzzle.

I like Byrd yes, but that doesn´t prevent me from being objective. Watch the fight again. After the 3rd round Byrd was an even player in the fight and in the later rounds the momentum of the fight changed into his favour. I have no problem with saying Vitaly was in front on the scorecards, but it definately wasn´t a one sided affair.

Two quick points about Byrd to all the moronicidal DKSAB haters out there.

    1. Byrd was NEVER a SMW. Byrd had 3 fights below the LHW limit, and two of em were when he was a 23 y/o kid. The other was a God aweful attempt to discredit Wladimir and Potvetkin by draining himself to such an extreme that his faced looked like the claymation character Smoky from Eddie Murphy's 90s sitcom called the PJs. :rofl

    2. He won 1 rd against Vitali Klitschko. 1 stinking rd and Vitali gave the fight away b/c he was afraid of long term damage occurring to his shoulder. The book is still out on Robbe Helenius, but should he NEVER be the same fighter who busted up 3 former world titlists, simply b/c he fought thru a torn labrum, hindsight may prove Vitali made the right move.

Now, as for the OP......good thread.

Byrd is criminally underrated here. He was a smooth CPing HW, with a very solid chin, decent power when he'd sit on shots, and defense which is unmatched in the division today or when he was fighting.

I rate him higher AT than I do Haye, even though I think Haye has more potential. Unlike Haye, Byrd wanted to fight or did fight anybody and everybody, most often on their terms. Wish guys like Bye Bye Jennings and David Haye would take note.:-(

No argument in defense of Haye, but Jennings has almost none amateur career and just 17 fights as a pro. Therfor he is brought up really fast.

Byrd was not a great fighter on any level. He was a massively undersized, light punching, shaky chinned fighter and the definition of a runner.

He was utterly destroyed by Ibeabuchi.

He beat a badly injured and past-prime Holyfield and a one armed Vitali quit on his stool. He beat the very limited David Tua. That's it.

He has an awful resume and if you'd all actually seen his fights you'd realise it's even worse than it looks on paper. His fights were horrible to watch. Just f*cking awful.

Klittards like to throw his name out every now and again and falsely build him up. He's one of Wlad's better wins and he 'beat' Vitali, so they think it elevates their K2 gods when they pretend Chris Byrd was a great fighter.

Shaky chinned ? I have to laugh at you.

And a runner ? Guess you never seen any of his fights. Byrd was no runner. He was staying in front of you and made you miss. No running.
Even the Klitschkos are more of a runner than Byrd was.

Because I watched his fights. Nobody ever described him as brave before this dogsh*t era.

He has no good wins. David Tua, that's it. He has more losses than he has good wins.

Just stop. He is like the David Haye that fought Voidimir just with ZERO power. The man is irrelevant. You could name literally hundreds of other boxers that were more skilled and have better records. Why does this bum keep getting brought up here? Why also do Klittards always seem to be on the Chris Byrd bandwagon? :think

Enough already. The man was awful. He was utterly despised by fans when he was fighting. Is this era so ridiculously terrible that we have to look back fondly on the career of Chris motherf*cking Byrd? Seriously, you need to move on. Chris Byrd is utterly irrelevant.

Why don't you all go make a thread about how the Voidimir fight convinced you that David Haye is a solid chinned brave fighter. It would make as much sense as this POS thread.

I know Chris Byrd is a f*cking irrelevant zero with one good win. I also know Klittards have an agenda when it comes to kissing his ass.

Incorrect. I have some respect for Chris Byrd. Just like any other average fighter. But he is not great, not underrated, and deserves to fade away into obscurity like so many other fighters. There are too many guys with more skills and talent that never get mentioned for this to be a legitimate topic.

Please don't tell me it's about boxing, cos he was horrible. He just was. His resume is not impressive, especially if you watched the fights and saw the level his opponents were at and how Byrd fought them. He's just so irrelevant in 2013. Move on.

Massively undersized, light punching, shaky chinned, yet managed to be competitive against any elite heavyweight besides Wladimir Klitschko.

By your own words Byrd would have to own unbelievable skills to compensate his deficits.
