And at 37, he is just about in the same age bracket as the other heavy players in that division.....Hopkins (43) is older, but Tarver, Calzaghe, Woods, Jones, Johnson.....all these guys are close to Chris's age. And at 175, I think Byrd will be very competitive and may suprise everyone with how well he does. I am looking forward to seeing him debut on May 16th.....FNF.:good This content is protected
He will do well at that weight, you will see him commit more to his punches, and knockout a good bit of his oppenents, best of luck to Bryd.
I'm happy to see Byrd fighting at Light heavyweight. I was surprised at the ease he was having at making weight. I also think Byrd can shock a few people and make some noise in the Light heavyweight division.
I think Byrd really took a major setback when he was totally dominated, then TKOed by Wladimir. Then, I think the Povetkin loss must have cause him to throw in the towel at heavyweight, and finally reaize that this was it....at least in the heavyweight division. To his credit, Byrd, when he went up to heavy put himself into a solid and lean condition. He put on muscle and kept his normally smaller body in an impressive, muscular condition. He didn't go the James Toney route. At light heavy, I think we'll see Byrd being very slick and as hard to hit, and with the weight reduction, his hand speed at light heavy is what I am interested in seeing. I think it'll also be very interesting to see if he can KO the lightheavies. I think after fighting and beating the likes of McCline, Golota, etc........ these light heavies will be pretty suseptible to Byrd's power, which may not decrease very much from his heavyweight days.. His KO power was minimal at heavy, but at lightheavy, it may be much more effective. Keep in mind he's not going down one weight class, he's going down two.
i just thought this would be the first ever heavywieght champion to go down in wieght to win a title. then forgot about fitzsimmons. oh hell fitz was 168 his whole career so it doesnt count. i dont think he will be heavy handed he still will do the same tricks at light heavy. james toney was doing thigns to heavywieghts that few middlewieghts could dream of. i think he will be faster maybe a bit more bullsome and use his jab and move style to better effect. also a joe calzaghe - chris byrd match up would be good. they fought each other in the amatuers with joe koing him....migh tbe interestign for a return match.
Bad Idea. opponents at heavy are much slower, and Byrd is used to their lack of speed, that is why he was able to do so well, slip punches, duck, stick and move. at lightheavy he will get demolished by much faster opponents, i see Byrd loosing fairly quickly and retiring
well thats what i thought about him goign to cruiser he will lose his edge. but look at the light heavies top 10:deal half of them are over 35 years old. woods 35 not very fast johnson 39 not very fast hopkins 43 not very fast and clinically flat footed. tarver 39has really slown down and looking very latargic jones 39 fast but hasnt looked his prime dean francis 35 shoulders goen all he has is a limp wristed jab being a ex-heavywieght and 37 makes him look not that far out of the light heavywieght scene.
thats what i have been told. he was stopped. your arrogant enough to be rude just to make yourself look like a boxing fan :good
I think he'll do good at this weight. Plus he is looking at some nice paydays if he can string along a couple of wins at 175
