I guess Byrd has sworn off McDonalds and has dropped close to forty pounds...Go figure. His debut at light heavyweight is next weekend. How would you assess a fight between Byrd and Johnson at heavyweight?
Tell you the truth I think Harold Johnson wins a WIDE unanimous decision. bryd would actually find himself being outjabbed and outboxed at every angle. harold johnson is very underated. many people dont have him in their top 10 175lbers But i think hes top 5. It not for archie moore, he reigns as world lightheavyweight champion for about 13-14 straight years. By the time he won the title he was in his 30s and beat some outstanding competition past his prime. On film he is the most fundamently sound boxer I have ever seen.
The technician Johnson beats the speedster Byrd. Harold Johnson truly was and is underrated. Less spectacular and flashy, he would win a decision over 15.
Byrd wins by unanimous decision when hes in his prime and could have made a legacy if he was at light heavyweight in 1999. He fought at middleweight when he was in the amatuers and when you think about it, it pretty impressive for him to handle huge heavyweights for his natural size and the only fighters that beat him were huge skilled natural heavyweights. Any average fighter couldn't put on a master class against David Tua. Johnson was a good fighter and techincally sound, but he hasn't seen many southpaws. Especially one like Byrd. He would be thrown off by the quickness, slickness, eulusiveness, counter punching and footspeed of Byrd.
You don't even know who Harold Johnson is, so how can you make a prediction? Then again, look who I'm talking to.
He was a pretty good fighter back in the 40s/50s/60s but he was never an elite fighter. He lost to all of the biggest names that he fought like Walcott, Moore ect. Hes a hall of famer and good in his respective era, but we are talking about a different level of skill and talent here. Hes never seen any one like Byrd while Byrd has seen every style and at heavyweight at that.
:-( You ****ing moron. He beat Ezzard Charles, along with guys like Eddie Machen, Bob Satterfield, Nino Valdes, Archie Moore(he did hold a win over him), Clarence Henry, Jimmy Bivins, Bert Lytell, Arturo Godoy, etc. His resume was fantastic(way better than Byrd's, especially at LHW, where Byrd has proven nothing), and he himself was the definition of a great textbook boxer at his best. This is why you're a joke on this forum, you speak on things you know nothing about.
Yep dont forget Doug Jones(Harold won nearly every round in a masterful performance), eddie cotton a very good fighter, and henry hank.
Doug Jones was one I was going to mention but slipped my mind during the posting. I didn't even know he beat Hank. That adds to his already impressive resume.
He didn't give Louis hell at all. I actually seen the fight(as opposed to you) and it was a masterful and easy fight for Louis. Goody was just a strong, rioded up fighter that had zero defense and was hit by every punch that was thrown by Louis. It was target practice.
We're talking about the first fight, not the rematch where Louis stopped him. Target practice my ass, he mauled Louis and hardly allowed him to get into a rhythm, made him look bad. But Louis came back very well in the rematch and took him out. You've definitely not seen the first fight if you think it was easy for Louis, not at all. One of his toughest fights for sure.
arturo godoy wasnt even on of harold johnsons 10 best wins which shows you just how good harold's win resume was.
