Who wins? I could see Young backing up throughout the fight and making Byrd come forward, which isn't Byrd's forte. Probably Young by the narrowest of decisions.
My first reaction is that this would a very difficult fight to watch. I was not a fan of either of these fighter's styles. That being said, I underrated Byrd on a regular basis during his career. I won't make the same mistake in his fantasy career. I have Byrd winning a sloppy, intelligent 12 round decision.
The funny thing is that I used to get their names mixed up all of the time. My mind links them together for whatever reason.
I remember Fres Oquendo moving against Byrd and making him come forward, something Byrd wasn't used to. Byrd got a bogus decision in that fight, but struggled against that style. I could see him having similar struggles against Young. Would not be an exciting fight at all, but evenly matched at least
Welcome to the site. Both excellent defensive counter punching types. Whoever can get the other one to come forwards more than the other takes a narrow decision. Can't make my mind up about who that would be.
To be honest, defense and chin wouldn't play much of a role. There would be about 18 punches thrown and, if anybody got hit on the chin, it would be the referee.
Byrd via close UD in a dull fight where there's little action & not many punches being thrown or landed. However, Byrd will likely be more active & have the better offensive - which will result in him getting the nod on the scorecards...
Thank you. Yes, I believe Young would have had Byrd coming forward. Young actually had Ali coming forward a lot in that fight, and Ali looked awful in doing so. 'Course, Ali's near career high weight of 230 didn't help either. Young seemed pretty good at dictating the pace, and getting fights to go in the pattern that he wanted.
Please no. Not this. This fight is used as an example of a guarantee bore constantly, I don’t even want to picture it I might fall asleep at work.
Completely up in there air for me. I can see it being so close and indecisive that it splits crowd opinion
Byrd was a second rate, less skilled less rugged modern day rip off od Young. He committed too much to his aggravating but insubstantial offense, and couldn't take the incoming flak quite like Jimmy Young. 1. Ibeabuchi would never have clocked Young like he did Byrd, and if he did, he would have instinctively been able to evade the rest of the incoming artillery, like he did so well like he did in San Juan vs Foreman. Byrd looked like a chicken in a slaughterhouse, scared and in shock, whereas Young was clear eyed in relative seconds. 2.Wlad would have never been able to dominate Jimmy the way he did Chris. Young was a guy who arguably beat Ali, Norton, frankly, making them look lost and foolish at times, outclassed, and I believe, shut out Ron Lyle, and made his major statement in upsetting, schooling and outboxing a still very live and dangerous George Foreman, decking him along the way. Chris was a part time boxer/part time puncher, whereas Young was a committed, dedicated defensive wizard, who admittedly, "punched sometime", and was very slick and sneaky as a major counterpuncher. All this said, the fight itself would be, to everyone (except for me), a very tepid, admittedly boring affair, with Young winning a decision largely by making Byrd do most of the heavy lifting, like being the aggressor, and forcing Chris to lead, which would take him completely out of his comfort zone. The resulting problem with this plan, is that Jimmy would be throwing very little punches, and hence, would make the fight look harder for him than it should have been...in fact, a draw would have been possible, with the public clamoring for a rematch, I'm sure.
Yikes! Now I do like Young against Norton, Lyle 2 n Foreman but that's it he really infuriated me more often than not. That said, I still wanna see his performance in Shavers 2. Like the only person here interested in that lol. I like Byrd against Tua n Holyfield but thats it from off my mind. Now w both being so counter minded, I still see Byrd stealing rounds in a very uneventful match. Byrd outworking a Jimmy after the mid 70s for sure imho.
