Flatlander -you're sayign Calzaghe isn't the best boxer in the world 168/175??? Also, I didn't make it up about Calzaghe/Byrd in the Amateurs, i found it on the net - am a bit suspicious too - have no idea if it's true or not...
Well, you may have a legit claim. However, Calzaghe has not fought every fighter at this weight so it is difficult to make such a leap. I would not however bet against Calzaghe, AGAIN!
Back to the theme of this thread. We will know more after tonight. Not that Byrd fighting an opponent will tell us how he will do against Joe but it will tell us if Byrd has speed and power at this weight. If Byrd KOs his opponent easily and early, then we may have something to hang our hat on. If he does his usual defensive, passive fighting style, then may be not.
Some said it perfectly earlier. This is a complete internet myth. If Joe had beatenh a future heavyweight world champion as an amatuer he would of told somebody, he tells us he beat Glenn Catley and Dean Francis in the Amatuer code so I doubt a name like chris byrd would slip his memory. Joe wasnt a 168lb amatuer anyway...
ESB member said Calslappy beat Chrissy Byrd in the amateurs. If anyone can locate video please post it.
Now here's a match-up!!! Actually, I'd say my prediction would have to depend on Byrd's performance tonight. But basically, Calzaghe should have a field day as long as he stays in the pocket and throws in combination (something he wasn't doing well in the early stages of the Hopkins fight).
I just caught this, Flat. Thanks for the info. Here I was wasting my time looking for sources and video that never existed because some ESB moron said they fought as amateurs.
What you have to consider with Byrd is that he is used to being much the faster man. He'll look like an oak tree in there with p4p one of the fastest in the world, at SMW
