Chris Byrd vs. Mike Tyson in 2002. Who do you think wins? I thought of this today when me and my friend were talking about Tyson after prison and I told him I can think of a few HW's that could beat him at the time. Chris Byrd's one of them, Byrd would win a UD in this fight at that point of Tyson's career. Tyson's best shot at becoming HW champ would've been when Hasim Rahman was champ. I think Tyson would've KO'd that Rahman. But I think Byrd points his way to a UD. What about you?
Byrd would have got stopped the same way he did against Ibabuechi(sorry for the spelling)He had nothing to deter Mike from comming forward and eventually he would have got nailed by a big shot.Byrd was decent but not so good against big hitters.
Byrd wouldn't even beat the shot 2002 version of Tyson, the only time he would win is against the Tyson that fought McBride in 05. Byrd just isn't a good fighter, if not for King he would've never became champ, FFS Oquendo kicked his ass but got robbed
Tyson's mystique in 2000-02 was perpetuated by the face that he hadnt faced any that can exploit his erosion. But for all of Mike's shortcomings I believe in 2002 he was still capable of beating Byrd because Byrd never had anything to discourage Tyson, or to deter him. I believe Tyson would have been woefully behind ala Botha but would have landed the equalizer that would have eventually turned the tide. Byrd may have very well pulled off a UD with a game Tyson keeping the fight constantly in suspense but I'm going with Tyson on this one.
I think anyone with any mobility and boxing sense, would have beaten Mike Tyson then. Golota, Francis, Botha, all of those *******s then did the wrong thing and slugged it out with Mike and lost miserably. Byrd could take punches, was elusive, was fast, I dont think Tyson would have won. It never happened, though, so we cant be sure of anything, but even if it did...who would want to watch a Chris Byrd fight anyways?
So do I. Make it 2 years earlier and it may have been a different story, but by 2002, I like Byrd comfortably.
Byrd beat a similar fighter stylewise in David Tua by UD, it just makes sense he'd be smart enough to outpoint Tyson all the way.
Probably Byrd. People need to realize that Tyson was shot in the 2000s. His prime was in the 1980s. Prime Tyson goes to town on Byrd.
