    He made 169 in his debut and I'm sure he could make 168 easily back then almost certain he could even make 160 back then.
    He also made 175 in his last before last fight.
    175 was easier for Byrd than it was for Roid .
    And if it helps you think about this thread feel free to relate to it as a 185 catchweight between the two , or do you still think he couldn't make 185 either ?
    Byrd took steroids , HGH and forced himself to eat in order to weigh like a HW , he was never more than a lightheavy though and his actual weigh ins in the beginning and the end of his career prove it.

    No he wasn't . It was due to his style. His style was about avoiding punches to the extent of forgetting to punch himself.

    It was Montell who told that he was not allowed to get himself prepared/warmed to the fight . I always believed him in this one.
    Excuses are usually the truth behind the facts. They are less known facts.

    So we'll match a prime Griffin against a pro debuting Byrd or a LH that was shot to pieces? Stupid thread. He won the IBF title and defended it, Id say he was in fact a heavyweight.

    According to himself he was 190-200 between fights and gained weight in training camps by bulking up. 175 if he was deciplined would have been doable throughout his career, too much coming down when he was old though

    Byrd was clearly comfortable fighting at heavyweight. Sure he wasnt ripped, but he looked like total garbage drained down to cruiser. Not sure he could have made 175 during his prime, but its not surprising he could in the early stages of his career, he was not a big heavyweight.

    If he was 190-200 between fights it was probably due to his wish to be a HW at all cost (which he didn't know ) including eating way too much.

    Byrd could have made 175 easily at any point of his career .
    But if you disagree then relate to it as a 185 catchweight .
    Who wins and how in a 185 catchweight ?

    Byrd was probably quicker and the better overall fighter. I would say he wins. At least he put his punches together. Montell was only 5'7 too and I think he would struggle with Byrds elusiveness and size even with Futch in his corner.

    Byrd was quicker than real heavyweights , but is he quicker than the man whom was quick enough to give both prime Jones and a nearly prime Toney all they could handle ?
