We know that Vitali wanted no parts of Byrd after his loss in 2000. But were there plans for Vitali to fight Chris in 2004-5 when they were 2 best heavyweights in the world?

It would been nice to see a rematch. I think Vitali would have if not for the injury but the scorecards weren't telling the full story of the fight Vitali was winning most the rounds but they were really close rounds.

Yeah, the fight was closer than people remember. It wasn't a dominant effort by Klitschko. He was struggling with landing and tore his rotator cuff in the process.

Byrd was going to have a full camp this time , not 7 days notice. His style was a bad clash for vitali , he had him figured out by the mid rounds.
Vitali ducked it. Plain and simple

I only had Vital up by 1 point when the fight was stopped.

The reason Vitali had so much issues vs Byrd is because he didn't have Wladimir's potent jab if you notice Byrd was able to parry Vitali's jab quite easily.

Not to mention Vitali also doesn't have Wladimir's technical skills nor does he have his 1 punch power.

People like to make out Vitali would always beat Byrd but Byrd only had a 1 weeks notice vs Vitali and gave him all he could handle.

Byrd would be the best win on Vitali’s resume so I'm not entirely surely Vitali would beat Byrd in a rematch like people like to assume.

I don't see how Vitali winning every round somehow equals Byrd figuring Vitali out tbh

He didn't win every round. Most rounds were close and Vitali ountlanded Byrd by only 15 punches.

8 punches 132 to 124 and Byrd landed at a much higher percentage 44 percent to only 26 percent for Vitali.

Byrd also landed 50 percent of his power punches.

I swear people of only seen highlights or never actually watched the fight and just go with what they heard. Because if you actually sit down and watch the full fight its far from the Vitali domination that is often branded about which is completely false.

Thanks, I always mess this up xD

To be fair, when I rewatched the fight recently, it gave me Beterbiev vs Bivol vibes.

I had him winning every round hard to give Byrd any round he was mostly defending and not landing much back while Vitali was missing but still landing way more then Byrd did

    Not every round.

Vitali nicked rounds by a few punch as Byrd devised his strategy on the fly. The first 4 rounds Byrd was throwing little as he was adapting.

If Vitali was so good you would expect him to blow away a guy who went in there blind having only got the call 7 days earlier.

Ike ran through a prepared Byrd with a full camp like he was nothing.

Ike lost every round till he caught Byrd while Vitali was winning every round so I don't really see them as the same

I wonder if how much Vitali struggling is overstated but I don't remember it being as wide as 8-1 7-2. I am going to rewatch it and put my card here with max one round being allowed as a 10-10.

I can do the same when I have time but from what I remember I was told it was a close fight but what I got was Vitali winning every round with some being more competitive then others but Byrd really not doing enough to win
