Chris Byrd, what gives?

I don't mind Byrd at all. Certainly I'd put him above Micheal Spinks at Heavy.

 

Excellent resume, very courageous and smart fighter

 

He's a very underrated fighter who I have appreciation for, despite being hated so much by HBO. Never backed down from anyone, took some hard fights, and he made the most with what he got despite always being at a size disadvantage. His defensive skills and boxing ability were nice to watch, reminded me a bit of Whitaker and Nunn at times.
He definitely doesn't get enough attention. He can put on some dull fights and he was obviously not the most exciting fighter (especially for a HW) but I really admire his skills and tenacity.

 

I rate Byrd highly. He took hard fights against hard men and looked good in them. He's give a lot of people hassles.

 

I loved Byrd even when everyone hated watching him. Although the Holyfield fight broke my heart.

 

Was quarantined from work last week and watched most of his ibf title reign for some reason (was a Klitschko fan so couldn't stand Byrd). I was surprisingly entertained at times (Holyfield was terribly one sided but the best and most mobile of his defenses, and Oquendo and Williamson are unwatchable. The McCline and Golota fights were a hell of a lot of fun as he slowed just enough to get hit and had to fight his way put of it.) God I hate how he slapped with his punches, even at his size if he actually sat and threw a proper punch he could have stopped an exhausted McCline

 

I thought he also put on a great showing against David Tua.

Poor bloke needs to borrow Joe Frazier's nickname now. He's in so much pain after his boxing career in his shoulders, hips and feet that the only way he can get through the day is by constantly smoking weed. Shannon Briggs got him into it, by all accounts.

Chris Byrd was a real talent. Fought both klitchkos in the same year. Would have dominated if he campaigned at cruiserweight in his prime but he was old school

 

People use the "boring" label too often when they don't enjoy certain styles. He was genius in the ring. I really like his fight against Tua too.

 

love me some chris byrde, excellent defense, offence, though not much power, but thats ok. Seems like a cool dude too!

 

I consider him an ATG.

 

One of my fondest memories of late 90s boxing was watching Ike ice Byrd.

 

I always wonder if he could have dominated light-heavyweight had he chosen to stay there.

Terrific fighter. You can make a case for an all time top 30 ranking at heavy but probably just misses that mark for me. Certainly in the top 50 at heavyweight.

Imagine Byrd with his cousin's left hook. He'd be even better.
