He was more effective as a Heavyweight and made more money doing it. His style was made for bigger, slower fighters, not faster, more mobile ones.

Smart stylistic and business move on Byrd's part and he built a solid boxing career, despite his many detractors through the years that he was "boring."

Well what makes more money: being an average heavyweight or an undisputed champ at light-heavy?

Who made more money, jones or Byrd?

Money and prestige. He wanted to fight and beat the biggest and best. And he carved out a heck of a heavyweight career for himself. :smoke:smoke

Because he wanted to get as many divisions as possible away from Joe Calzaghe.

Has anyone got the video of Calzaghe KOing him in the amateurs?

Being honest, he is just a guy who is most comfortable fighting around 213 or so. He is just the size of your average heavyweight from back in the day. Caught in the middle of being a little bit too big to cut down, but small for a heavyweight. His weight is right around what a Prime Ali was, and a bit heavier than say Prime Joe Louis. So... he's a heavyweight. Just because he doesn't have a huge punch doesn't mean that he isn't a natural heavyweight. The fact is that he has to cut weight in order to make those other weight divisions. With his style... it has actually helped him. He is a slick fighter, so fighting bigger guys exsentuates his positives. He used his strengths to his advantage against bigger guys. Where a guy with a good punch, and bad defense with Byrd's size would have some serious trouble at heavyweight today.
