I don’t agree with the assertion that Byrd has a chance to beat Lewis. I think he has a chance to make him look silly at times and maybe stick 2 or 3 rounds in the bank, but no more than that. Lewis would keep the fight at range and wouldn’t play into Byrd’s hands by over extending to much, he also has an extra gear if he really needed it and could light up Byrd late if worst came to worst

 

You’re more than welcome to think that. On the other hand it’s completely fair to think Lewis could go in there looking for the KO and spark him out in 2 rounds.

Byrd has one way to win the fight and that’s outbox Lewis. Lewis has many ways he could win the fight, so even if he went into deep waters he has far more ways out than Byrd

 

Byrd was good.
Nowhere near as good as the elites from his era.

 

Erm ..no.. Wlad fought The Bird twice and each time he couldn't dispatch him as quickly and as easily as Ike did.

The no legged force ghost of Byrd from 2006 wouldn't see the 3rd round against Ike. Somehow he manged to last longer against Wlad when he was shot .. Its clear that Ikey had his number and would beat him 10x outta 10

 

I agree, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

There were people at the time, who had very high expectations of Johnson.

It isn't always obvious who is the contender of the ea, and who is the flash in the pan.

 

He fought three prime elite fighters in his career, was KTFO in 5 by one and won 2 out of the 28 of the rounds he fought against the other two.

Tua was not elite before you point out Byrd beating him.

 

Tua was the IBF #1 contender, and top five by Ring Magazine.

If you say that he is not elite at this point, then you would have to say that Byrd was not when Ike beat him.

How is Ike number 1? He barely beat Tua. Lewis is clearly the best of the late 90s, if not the whole 90s.
